Thats what I'm thinking too if a 1/2" 5 Star is still making this saddle roll then I think its not the right tree in this Caldwell for this horse.. That's kind of what I am thinking too.. I'll try not to make this too long. I put my promax on him with a 3/4" pad... slid off his shoulder and kept sliding back and rolled. So then I tried my 7/8" just to see and it slid back off the shoulder But did not roll. once off the shoulder it stayed put. I put my maxxed out on him with 3/4" and it stayed on the shoulder put rolled. So today I was going to try my 7/8 just to see what it will do. I told Charon and she said you don't use 5 star on flat back horses. I kind of feel he needs the thinner pad for the shoulder and thicker pad for his body as it's not as wide if that makes sense. To look at him you would think Caldwell is a perfect saddle for him. This is the first time I've had such a hard time fitting a caldwell. Does make me wonder if it's the wrong saddle for him? ETA: He's only 3 I know all you Caldwell lovers are going to hate me for saying this but......the saddle is sliding back behind the shoulder because that's naturally where it should sit. I know their theory is on the shoulder but.... 5 stars are the most contoured pad I have seen and I'm not sure why you couldn't use it on a flat backed horse, unless it was too thick. As a 3 year old it looks like he hasn't developed much wither yet. Saddles usually don't stay well until they develop further. I've found rolling usually is saddle fit and really be from a variety of different issues.

Thick and Wavy Posts: 6102 Location: Nebraska	my mare was built very similar and a lynn mckenzie special with a 3/4" 5 star fit her the best. I also used a 7.5" crown c but the special fit her better.

This is what I have tried: Wide Stoney - wrong bar angle Caldwell Promax Caldwell Maxxed Out Coats Batie tree - Wide Coats BWBR wide 2005 Coats wide Pozzi Flex Pozzi wide with 40* bar angle Everyone wants to put him in a wide.. and he looks wide, but I'm wondering if everything is too wide for him. When I put the saddle on it looks great. Some look a tad wide so I will try a little thicker pad. I get the same result from all these saddles.. Some of them I can't even put my foot in the stirrup it will roll to the side. Thinking of trying a Shiloh.... Too much rock?? Tami Reg fit... I know they have lots of rock Any suggestions?

The Shadd Platt modification on the RooHide's is my favorite for that shape.

The Shadd Platt modification on the RooHide's is my favorite for that shape. The Pozzi #10 was going to be my next try. Should I go with the wide or she has a #10 with a 40* bar angle. I'm going to get it from FC Saddlery. I ordered a Roo for my other gelding and had sent Brian pictures of this guy and he said the tree I'm getting would fit him as well. I don't want to buy him a roo yet as he is only 3 and would like to get him his own saddle as I haul both of them.

They would roll stepping on, ride up her neck, ride back, or slip sideways just loping circles. Nightmare. I will attach pics of mine and of my mare. Some of the saddles I can't even put any weight in the stirrup to get on! If I trot a small circle it rolls. Shifts side to side, slides back. I'm over it! So is my poor colt

Elite Veteran Posts: 618 Location: Alberta Canada	I love my Caldwell Promax, it might not be the best fit for my guy but by using correction padding it works. I am looking for a second saddle and have ordered a Vernon Purdy. I messaged him on facebook, then he had me call him and we talked in length about concept of his saddle and tree. Its worth a try to check out his saddles.
