I am looking for a supplement to help my gelding recover from Pigeon Fever and help boost his immune system. Any reccomendations? He has a pretty tough case of it with many abscesses throughout his chest and midline. My vet is one of those that doesn’t really believe in feed through supplements but I feel like even if it helps him a tiny bit I would gladly spend the money on it.

Thanks in advance!!!

MVP In-Sync 4 is a great option, also covers other areas besides just immune support. Covers muscle support as well which will help in the long term recovery where the abscesses were/are. You're welcome to pm me for more info or to see if there's any offers going on right now

levamisole and vitamin E may help. Unfortunately, I think time is going to be your biggest help. Have yall been draining the abscesses as they mature?

when Teehaha got Piegeon Fever I went out there and held hot espson salt compresses on the bumps until they started to drain.  You don't want to let the drainage get on the ground because it's my understanding it will stay a long, long time.  She never really acted sick but once those things started draining it was a mess!

Been threw this with my one gelding, when the adscess was mature my vet drained it and I kept it drained, all I did was make sure he ate a good diet with plenty of good hay adding alfalfa hay, fresh water every day, keeping the wound clean. I think adding the alfalfa hay was a good ideal since its got good vits in it naturally, I did'nt go buy any supplements and this has been 10 years are more and never had a problem again and I have other horses and no one else got it.

Yep! We’ve been draining them as well as our vet. He’s got a rather complicated case. Quite a few external abscesses all the way from his chest to his hip. He also has one on his lung internally. He was on SMZ’s for about 7 days and we didn’t see much improvement, actually a little decline and that’s when we took him in to the local equine hospital and they did an ultrasound and found the internal abscess. The vet here said he gets the award for the highest white blood cell count he’s seen all year. YAY- not!!! They switched him from SMZ’s to Uniprim and Rifampin and we brought him home to monitor and doctor him here.

He’s lost a ton of weight in the process of this. He’s just SO sick. I’ve got him on 8lb Senior Glo, soaked alfalfa pellets, electrolytes and proviso currently.

I hate hearing that this horse has internal adscesses, these are so hard to fight.

Colostrum from Biostar, or the Rebound product they sell, I think it has the colostrum in it.

He’s got a long road to recovery, that’s for sure. We have great vets behind us doing everything they can to help him so all we can do now is continue to care for him and pray!
