Tell me about them! I'm looking at getting panels, since I board. Best panel for the money, what size round pen, etc. Please and thank you!

Before I answer: Are these panels going to need to be put up and taken down each day since you board? Where will they be stored? Outside or inside?

Β  They can be left up. Probably stored outside.

Probably need at least 50 ft.  That's pretty small, but I think that's what mine is.  Any smaller to me and the lope is going to be pretty difficult.

Are you wanting this round pen to ride in also or just working your horse while on foot?

Really depends on what you are doing, when breaking colts I always like to stay around 40 foot, but if it is just for riding and working a broke horse 50-60 foot.

Mine is 60 ft, and there are occasions doing groundwork that it's a tad big, but I wouldn't make mine smaller. We splurged and bought a Noble pen and it is totally worth it!!!! I had one before that was made from nice, mid weight panels and they are all bent to hell and have very little paint left. The Noble still looks brand spankin new after several years. We went with 12 ft long, 6 ft tall, galvanized 6 rails, so they are freaking heavy. Hubby and I can tear down and set up together with some grunting and cussing...but admittedly, we use the skid steer to move the 6 ft bow gate.

I'm going to be working with a colt, both ground work and eventually riding. I never ride my finished horses in a round pen.

Hahahaha, grunting and cussing...I swear I need a shirt that says "I'm sorry for the things I said while fixing fence."

40 to 60’ depending on what you’re doing. 45’ if you’re a person that wants to check up a horse and work him on the rail easily. Starting colts, 40-60’, depending on your comfort level. 80’ - 90’ if this is you’re only spot to ride and do everything.
To calculate how many panels you’ll need:
Use Pi and divide by the length of panel you want to use, don’t forget to allow for width of a gate also ;-)
