A lot of running bred horses have thin soles, my farrier says. I do two things: I use Keratex on the outer wall. I also use Hoof Armor (an epoxy applied with a gun) to the sole. It sets up within seconds and provides a hard, breathable, flexible layer on the sole. It prevents the sole from shedding and therefore, a thicker sole is allowed to form. It lasts realistically about 2-3 weeks. I apply each time horse gets trimmed. Huge improvement has been made in 3 trim cycles. I found out about it on the Hoof Rehab Help and Barefoot Trimmers groups on Facebook. People swear by this stuff. I can see why.

My new DTF is the same. This year was a real bad year to try to transition her to barefoot.  She is not going to be able to do it. I've now spent over $3K just keeping up with the injections and adjustment she's needed due to her avoidance from sore feet. I have tried every hoof application there is. She was on a shape-only trim schedule of 3 weeks, with one 4 week visit. There is nothing I wouldn't have done to help her! She will be getting shoes again next week and I HATE that!

Looking into trying to get carbon fiber shoes on her . .

My one mare had super thin soles. We put a wedge shoe on her to keep her sole off of the ground and added leather pads. It helped her a lot.

My appy has thin soles & walls. Farrier cuts through his foot like soft butter and his feet just crumble. There's never anything to put a shoe on, he's always lame. I did Durasole for awhile, but was unable to keep up with it properly. Tried Tributes Tough As Nails and it has helped him a lot. His feet don't break off and they aren't as soft. You could press his sole with your thumb and it would move, that's how soft it was. Now it is firm after 30 days & it's been nonstop mud here for a long time. I have some Keratex ordered to try, might want to try that for yours.

I think any persistent foot soreness is worth an X-ray personally. I realize there are indicators of sole depth visible on the hoof capsule - but there are too many structures you can’t see to write soreness off on thin soles, IMO.

My open gelding is a bit case in point. He was just a little uncomfortable after a long season barefoot. Xrays revealed he actually has remodeling on P3 due to being allowed to grow too much heel for too long before I got him. His toes almost never look long, but pick his foot up and you might be able to lop 1/2” or heel off when he’s due, previous farriers weren’t balancing him correctly at all. I really like a horse who can go barefoot, but he will now always at least wear front shoes during the hauling season.

Once diagnosed you’ve got good suggestions to try. Make sure your diet is promoting good growth and they get plenty of time out moving around, also promoting a quality hoof.

I second Durasole! Make sure you wear gloves though, or your hands will be a purple/blue.
