Location: Missouri | We are *finally, after 6 years* going to get around to making our place more efficient next summer by removing an old barn, putting in new stalls, and a small arena for me.
We don't have a lot of acreage right now - 5 acres. All flat (ish?) and usable. But where we'd have to put an arena if I'm going to get one, I don't have a lot of space. Maybe like 100x125ish. Too small? All I want to be able to do is lope large and small circles, and do a bit of slow work every once in a while. If I want to make a run, I have a few arenas that host ride nights, and several friends with full sized arenas within 20 min that I can haul to. Mostly, I just want some nice ground and a place to do slow work. Otherwise, I typically ride on the trails as my horses are finished.
Thoughts? I considered putting in a large round pen there too....what would you do? |

| Be sure you get it long enough for a pole pattern. Covered arena near me is so short you have to put the poles in the alleyway. |

I didnt even think about that. I dont do poles but if we ever did sell the place someone may turn their nose up to the arena being too short for a pole pattern. |

We work all of our horses on poles. Helps with control and adds some variation |

If each pole is 21 ft apart, I'm going to need more like 150 feet. Sigh....
Edited to add, I suppose I could set them up on a diagonal.
