| does anybody use a hidez compression suit on their horse? i am debating whether i want one or not. likes , dislikes? i do have the socks and like those.  |

Location: Dubuque,IA | I wpuld suggest getting yourself a full body siut of Spanx wearing it for 24 hours and see how your horse might feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It definitely impedes blood flow and most vets would say that is not good.

Location: Kansas | I have a suit for each horse and my horses LOVE them. Most times, I don't even get the chest zipped up before they are sighing in relief and starting to relax. That said, I don't leave them on for more than a few hours at a time.....never 24 hours. With his suit on, my high strung off the track horse will literally sleep at the trailer even if his buddy leaves.
I know many people are skeptical of them, but here's the story that sold me on suits:
Chance, my main rodeo horse, is 16 this year and has the wear & tear from rodeoing for close to a decade. Winter and cold temperatures make it hard for him to get loosened up before a run, so I've always had to get on way earlier, walk a lot more, stretch him more frequently, etc., before the New Year's Stampede rodeos in KC.
Until I got him a Hidez suit.
At the Dec. 2016 Stampede, it took the better part of an hour to get him warmed up each night with temps in the lower 20s/upper teens. I was really nervous when the Dec. 2017 Stampede rolled around and temps were below 10 degrees (not counting wind chill). The first night of the rodeo, I planned ahead and started my warmup with about an hour to go before barrels would begin. 10 minutes later, I stopped and got off because he was already loose enough to run. We killed 30 minutes walking and standing around waiting for the other events to hurry up because the warmup took so much less time than I expected. Each of the 3 nights, I got on later and later, but still was able to get him warmed up in plenty of time.
Literally the only thing that changed from 2016 to 2017 was the Hidez suit. I used Back on Track sheet, neck cover, quick wraps, knee wraps, and hock wraps both years, his Soft Rides both years, kept him in the heated building until going across the driveway to the warmup barn, etc. There's nothing else that could have caused him to warm up in 1/2 the time with temperatures 10-15 degrees colder the second year. The $900 we won in those 3 days made a Hidez believer out of me, and you better believe he'll be wearing his Hidez suit at the Stampede later this month! |

I think Melanie's example is a great one if where they can be useful.
Will they magically make a 1D horse out of a 3D horse? No. But if you notice your horse is stiff or not performing well after long periods of travel or cold weather compared to when it’s warm or there’s less travel involved, I think it’s a therapy that could be useful. I think there’s others like BOT or PHT that could be tried first for less money first - mostly because you can find a lot more of those therapies used as well. |

You will LOVE the ice socks. Seriously the greatest invention ever.
The suits can be tough to put on if the suit is cold (I always bring ours in the house the night before we need them if it's going to be sub-25 outside), or if it fits too tight. We have one horse who probably needs a mid fit instead of the standard because we struggle to get the hind legs zipped, but the others who have the correct size all go on really easily.
It is amazing how much my horses like the Hidez products. Chance (my super calm veteran rodeo horse) LOVES his mask, which I only put on him to hold the neck cover in place. Apparently the compression is stimulating some accupressure points that I didn't know he wanted/needed worked on.
Really PHT is tough to find any cheaper than Hidez because the sheets are almost the same cost as a suit. Unless you have a knack for finding PHT used stuff....I sure don't. |
