Location: Alabama | How do you guys do your pelleted shavings to cushion your concrete stalls?
We’ll be stalled on concrete Wednesday-Sunday and i want to do everything i can to keep him feeling good.
He had a set of cloud boots all the way around he wears in the stall also.
But I’ve been told to poke a hole in the bag and fill it with a water hose as much as it will hold, and I’ve heard just put some water on them and it’ll be enough. Also do i pack them? Or do i just let them be once i spread them?
I also have the loose large flakes to go over top once i get those down |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I like pelleted shavings on concrete. It always seems so much softer than flakes. I can’t remeber but I think I used 5-6 bags per stall. |

| I use 4-5 bags per stall, I cut a big X, fold the flaps back and fill the bag with water, it will puff up like Jiffy Pop, then I spread it. I have never packed them, they last for several days, provide a great cushion, easy to clean, do not separate like flaked shavings leaving your horse standing on concrete. Be sure to take a hose in case the facility does not have one. Good luck at the show!

Location: North of Tulsa, Oklahoma | I use 5 bags of the pellets, cut a large slice in the bag and pour in about 1.5 gallons of water. Allow the pellets to soak while I do the rest of the stalls the same. Spread pellets evenly on floor, they wont all be expanded, which will allow some more absorbing for urine. I then cover over pellet with 3-4 bags of the compressed thick and fluffy shavings.
Two years ago when the storm hit the BBR and flooded in the barn (we were stalled on end), the pellets saved our stalls from being soaked completely! |
