Has anyone used these pads? My 5 year old cow/run bred mare has super wide shoulders and my saddle is causing white marks on her shoulders. Currently riding her in a Caldwell Pro Max. The saddle feels very tight in that area. I saw this pad and thought it might help. Thoughts. Hoping the pictures uploads

It's the set back build-up pad with the 1/2 inch felt and the 3/8ths gel in front. pic on my phone is too large.

What type of pad and the thickness are you using now?

I've used both a 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch 5-star.

I know its a more expensive option, BUT I would try and find a saddle that fit before simply changing pads. GOod thing is, you can sell a Caldwell in about 5 minutes. Until then, I would try and find a saddleright pad! They are very thin but work amazing at redistributing pressure points.

If your saddle is still to tight with a 1/2 5 Star no pad is going to fix this issue..A built up pad will make it worst.. Do you have any pictures of you're horse with and without saddle?

Unfortunatley, if your saddle is too tight and pinching her shoulders, no pad is going to fix that. You'll need to find a different saddle.

That's like trying to buy different socks for shoes that are too small. Your socks don't change the fact that the shoes pinch, and adding extra socks actually makes it worse.

Ditto on the selling of a Caldwell fast..

Sorry not selling my Caldwell. Ever.  Yes it would sell fast but I have other horses it works on so it will stay.  I tried 4 other saddles yesterday on her: a Custom Irvine on a cutting tree, a Tami Semus, Pozzi regular and larry coats.  Every one was tight on her shoulders.  ugh.  Her shoulders are wide but then hollow behind.  The custom irvine was the best and when I add a shim behind the shoulders it was decent.  I have a few friends with wide pozzi's so will try one of those when I get a chance.  What saddles are there out there that are good for wide shoulders?  She actually has a whither, she isn't mutton withered, I'd say wide but not excessive back.  But a drop behind the shoulders.

I have a mare that everything seemed to be hurting her.  I used 3 different saddle and a treeless with no difference in her preformance or attitude.

I took an old 1/2" CSI wool pad and placed it on her back and drew where her shoulder set.  Then put her foot on a hoof stand and drew where her shoulder went back to on both sides.  I cut out a little bigger then what I drew at a 45ish degree angle with a box cutter.  I didn't want the CSI pad to not have some support over her shoulder so I added another layer.  I put the fleece 1/2" next to her, the wool pad second and the CSI pad on top giving me just over 1 inch of pad.  Made a huge difference for my girl.  Not saying this is the cure all, but it may help.

I Have ridden MULTIPLE saddles on a number of different horses with different backs, with ALLLL of them i use an impact gel pad...i own about 5 impact gel pads simply because of color....i use the pads that are navajo on top and fleece on bottom....i have NEVER had one to have a sore back due to these pads...the only draw back is they are heavy...i  bought a 5-star once and put it on my horse and i was not on him 5 minutes before he started bucking...so i GAVE that thing away and i have never ridden nothng but a impact gel since...i ride a wide double j pozzi on one of my horses and  i just got in a wide martha josey cash for my young horse that the pozzi was not wide enough for.

The Caldwell Maxed Out or Maxed Out XL would probably be your best bet. Or contact David with About the Horse (Black Rhino) to discuss his trees.
On the Caldwell website it gives instructions on how to modify a pad, similar to how the CSI was modified above. Or, Team Equine can build a pad, the Correct Fit 3, that has less material where the shoulder bulges are (like a Clinton Anderson PRS pad).
