Does anyone use essential oils for their horse? What do you use, and how do you use it? I’m curious about using lavender or chamomile.

We use an immune boost on our all after having a nasty round of respitory issues that lead to a really high fever and abcesses in the lymph nodes on one of ours earlier in the year. Have not had anything more than a runny nose since than. Also have one that is mega air that we give before runs and have used a liquid xanax as well. Have some friends that have used an ulcer prevention with alot of success as well. With anything you have to remain constant on the application. We mix our in when we feed

Thanks for your input..I don’t know much about it, so trying to learn. I have heard some people put lavender under their nostrils, but was reading last night that the oil shouldn’t touch their nose..so I’m confused now!

If you do that, you need to ALWAYS use a carrier oil. I use Coconut oil (cold pressed or fractionated). There is a dilution of so many drops of EO to carrier oil but I can't remember what it is. There is a lot of info you can find on the internet. Just wanted to add I didn't mean to piggyback this quote, and when using a carrier oil, that applies to topical use, although when I do oral I also use a carrier oil, but that is because it upsets MY stomach if I don't. I am a little sensitive to oils I guess. Also, remember horses are usually very sensitive to oils so make sure you are using a high quality oil and you don't have to use much, either.

I don't buy from individuals, I buy direct from Rocky Mountain Oils, Young Living (I joined to help my cousin out), Ananda Oils and Swiss Aromatics. All of these oils are high quality, I have not seen any difference in quality, just some are cheaper, or you don't have to do the MLM to get the better prices. I do not buy the oils you can get at the grocery store or GNC - Acia or Now are a couple I won't buy for therapeutic purposes.

Yes! I use all sorts of oils for different things! I would only ever recommend using young living products. Lavender is awesome for a lot of things! Feel free to pm me for more information.

Be careful when applying to legs and feet and especially under a bandage... I've seen a few get the hair burned off when people used their own mixes to bandage and treat hoof abscesses. Probably would be fine in moderation but. Too much or maybe wrong mix? can burn their skin.

There is a FB group...Deanna Harrison’s Essentials Oils and Accupressure....that has a lot of info. I’ve ordered from her and was happy with the products. Especially love the Morphine Bomb and Liquid Xanax.

I rub peanut oil all over all of mine.

not because it does anything, but I like the way it smells and it makes them slip thru the air faster.

as far as oils curing anything, there has never been anything at any time that would be cured or healed by smearing crisco on it.

But the folks that sell it love you

so you are wanting them for calming purposes?  I do have the "recipe" that is supposed to be like a tranq - I don't feel it is "that" good, but it does relax somewhat.  I love my oils for a variety of things, & only use Doterra.  I like CBD most for calming and pain.  For healing, Solid Foundation had pics a couple years ago (or longer) of a mare that had gotten ripped open pretty severely - thinking it was a cat attack but won't swear by it - & she used Doterra oils on it & the healing pics were amazing!

The oils we use are bought premixed with a carrier oil. The lady I purchase from is incredible and very very knowledgeable about the oils and how to mix them. She has quite a few futurity/pro/nfr ladies using her different oils very successfully

When I got out of high school, one of my jobs was riding & restarting horses for a dealer. I started using a lavender scented detangler when I groomed them (just in the mane & tail), and I honestly did see an improvement in how quickly they relaxed for grooming & saddling. It obviously isn't going to make a crazy one sane or correct training issues, but the smell does seem to have a minor soothing effect.

Exactly! I use oils and that is exactly my experience. They help but are NOT going to change crazy into completely sane. They do help tone them down, in my experience.
