Look for a feed that is the best to build muscle but not make my mares hot. They are all very easy keepers but to get them to put on muscle like they need I am having to feed 4lbs of feed a day (which isn't most of the time too much) and they are so hot and high I have to ride them for ever to just get them to where I can train on them. Any feed options would be great. Thanks!!
What are you feeding now?
Perhaps a good hay and a ration balancer?
My 5 year old mare is the same way, grain makes her act like a snorty wild mustang. She's on Tribute Kalm N Ez right now, I think like 3lbs. Thats her absolute max and when she's off for the winter she gets half that. She has done well just adding some extra alfalfa and a small amount of Nutrena Empower Boost. I just added an extra flake to her nightly dinner and then she gets 1 cup a day of the Boost. In the past I've tried the SmartMuscle Mass from SmartPak and In-Sync by MVP with good success as well. A little more pricey, but they work as long as the horse is in work. I generally try to add more hay or increase protien before I start adding muscle supplements though.

I 2nd this. I never liked feeding a bunch of grain because my horses are fatties! I was told I wasnt doing them any justice by not feeding the recommended amount of grain on the bag.. so it was suggested to feed a ration balancer. Only 1lb a day and they get all the nutrients they require without the extra calories. I'm currently feeding Triple Crown 30% ration balancer... everyone has finally figured out that's what they are eating and quit their silly food strike.
I'm curious what the OP feeds but she/he never came back, LOL..
