Has anyone ever had a mare who was said to not be in foal in an ultrasound but actually ended up being in foal? I have a mare who was bred in late June/early July of last year (forget the exact date). Vet AI'd her, then came back to check and ultrasound was empty. He did this twice, the latest being about 2 weeks after she was bred. We were going to try again, but she wouldnt ovulate again despite everything seeming to be healthy. The vet had no reason why she wouldn't come into heat. So we left it and said we'd try again this spring. Well now in the last couple of weeks, her belly has really started growing (she's fatter than she was all fall and winter while being on a round bale 24/7). She would have been about 9 months along now. If she were in foal t would explain the attitude she had. She kicked the gelding (have been together for 4 years and no issues) she was out with late last fall, and she was grouchy like that the last time she was in foal. She has had 3 foals prior to this. So is it possible that she is in fact in foal, or is it just wishful thinking from me? Please ignore how bad her hair looks in the pictures, she's shedding bad! i
Looks bred to me.
Happens all the time. Two weeks is too early to check. My vet does not check until 21 days
To my very very untrained eyes, she looks pregnant!
I've had a mare said not be in foal by TWO different vets one year. She got really heavy that winter and spring, and so my mom put her on a diet and started working her. 365 days after being bred, she built a bag, my mom hauled her to a vet to be palpated, confirmed pregnant. And she foaled that night. It happens.
Your mare looks rather pregnant to me.
I sent my mare to a stallion owner for breeding, her vet checked my mare open........well my mare started to develop a belly so had her preg checked in january. My vet confirmed she was in foal
Thanks all! I just had to make sure it wasn’t my imagination! The vet is coming this week for something else, might get him to check her out now. I was so excited for this baby, so fingers crossed there’s one in there!
