I went to put up my mare and gelding to feed last night and noticed my gelding was bleeding from his chest. He ended up just having an abrasion, no puncture so I’m assuming my mare kicked him. This morning I went to turn them out and it’s fluid filled so I’m guessing hematoma. Pictures were before I cleaned it again this morning so the brown in it is a shaving. Does anyone have any recommendations on what will help it to reabsorb quickly? I gave him some equioxx but he’s not acting like it’s bothering him it was more for my own peace of mind. Lol I’ve reached out to my vet as well but haven’t heard back yet.
Clean it real good and put DMSO on it.
Leave it alone. It might be a seroma or hematoma, but in either case it will probably resolve. Hose it off a couple times a day, and keep using him. It might take even a few months to disappear, but that’s OK. Just keep an eye on it. Whatever you do, don’t stick a needle in it. Rarely things like this can develop into an abscess, but dont let anyone other than a vet try draining it.
