Mississippi requires a court order to stop payments unless: child is emancipated, joins military, married, or gets arrested. Otherwise you pay until they are 21. Been there, done that and never received a single piece of paper saying payment had ended or obligations were met. We just paid the final month she turned 21 and ended our autopay option on our banking bill pay site.
His divorce decree states child support is to end when the child turns 18 or graduates high school , whichever comes later. She turned 18 in December and graduated 2nd week of May.
Sounds exactly like Sean's situation.
His oldest daughter dropped out of school, and his ex and the daughter made SURE not to let anyone know about that. He just happened to see something on FB where she was bragging about not having to go to school. . . Never could get anything done and he had to pay until she turned 18.

So... went to the court house today and was told the laws have recently changed regarding child support. He will indeed have to go to court to stop payments. She will have to sign off on a paper as well. If shes refusing, we will have to pay $75 to have her served by a constable and it will end up having to be settled in court. Unbelievable. He spoke to an attorney today to see how much it would be to have them file for him... $2500 . I never would have thought it would be this difficult for him to exercise his rights by the decree.
This just dont make any sence, if the child support is to stop when she turned 18 and she turned 18 what is the problem? Is the child really getting the support money or is her mother useing it for herself and wants it to keep coming, makes you wonder!!!
