Location: Texas | My mare that has always ran great not a mins trouble is now a bleeder. I ran her on a sat, felt like a million bucks, ran her thursday and she would not go fwd what so ever, not to first barrel, not to second barrel, actually it took me a min to get her out of the arena. I instantly knew something was wrong, took her to my vet had her checked and she is a bleeder. She has only refused to run the one thursday and then we tried to exb her right before we scope her and she still gave me trouble. i have not gave her lasix yat. Now my question is. What did yall do to bring yalls bleeders back from not being scared?

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Never had a bleeder, but just wanted to say, poor mare, this bleeding must have really did a number on her... Maybe just take her and just do some light trail riding for awhile and just take her into the arena with out barrels and just ride her easy untill she understands that going into the arena is not going to hurt her. What did the vet say? Are you sure shes not tying up too? She sounds like she was in alot pain. |

Location: Texas | Iv never owned a bleeder so this is all new to me. Iv been around lots of people that owned them, just never paid attention. Vet said on a scale 1 to 5 she is a 1.5 . She has only been ran about 5 times in the last year and before that only a handful times in her life. She has always been took very very good care of. I think shes just recently reached this level of running. I ride her out of the arena 90% of the time anyways. Vet looked her completely and said shes very healthy otherwise and assured me this is nothing major and she sees it alot.

| My experience...found out my gelding bled, vet scoped, prescribed lasix, and then I went to a fun show three weeks later after some time off (personal choice) and some trail rides. Didn't exhibition because he's a one run type of horse. My cue to his bleeding was a blow up and out around first. That show he sat deep and finished that barrel and I sat there not knowing how to ride it. He's super easily intimidated so I was expecting several runs to get his mojo back, like when his hocks were injected. I found out on accident that he's more of a 3 hour out IM injection than 4. So it is something you might have to play with. |

Location: Iowa | I ran a bad bleeder back in my high school / college days. Worked greatly with my vet to make sure she was in tip top shape, always ran her on Lasix and sometimes turned out when the conditions were bad for a bleeder (hot, humid, etc). One thing that helped my mare “calm” down was I gave her a calming medicine, which back then was a little ace under the tongue but there are a lot of calming paste/supplements out there now a days to try. There are even a lot of bleeder supplements out there now too. Bleeder Stop, Bleed X, Equipulnim, etc that you all try! When my mare did bleed, I always gave her some time off, some antibiotic and went to the town arena to just walk around and show her to relax. Good luck with your horse, bleeding is always a scary thing! |

Location: Texas | Shes never been a horse that needs a calming supplement, shes only refused the arena twice. Total new thing for her to ever do anything remotely like that and thats why i instantly took her to the vet. Im just curious on how i should start hauling her again to let her know she will be ok. I guess its just going to be one of those things that is going to take time with trial and error. |

| I have a light bleeder per my vet unless it is really hot and humid I run him on a dex/banamine coctail. If it is hot a humid then I go with the lasix. I have been using a product called Race Today for several months and I belive that it has really helped my horse. I have stopped the dex/banamine most of the time. The race today is a powder that I put in his grain he loves it, I think he would lick it out of my hand. I do limit the water before running, I will give him a drink when we get to the show then I will cut him off just like if he was on lasix and I think this helps as well. Good luck bleeding is no fun for sure but LOTS of horses bleed. |
