Went to a weekend race this past weekend and my mare took much longer to recover after our runs. She is in shape. I am taking her to the vet Saturday. I am praying it isn't something serious and career ending.  I moved to a new barn in March so I am hoping maybe its an allergy of some sort. I have noticed when she has her head down to graze it almost sounds like she is congested.

What is everyones experiences with breathing issues and what were you able to do for your horse?

My colt unfortunately has allergies and what my vet thinks is the beggining of COPD/Heaves. I recenly put him on a supplement called Heave HO and so far, when he gets worked up, I no longer hear the flappy/congested sound he used to make. It wasnt too terribly expensive for a 90 day supply and now have a game plan for next spring. What is odd is that I never hear it in the fall/winter, so I'm thinking it is aggrevated by the dirt road we live on, the heat & humidity also seem to affect it.

Prayers for your gal!
