Question...... I just got a new horse & do not like the barn name he has came with. He's only 5 so he really don't know his barn name too much right now....lol.  What do you all think about changing barn names? I heard good & bad about it. TIA

I have only done it once and regretted it. Tried to run her for 3 years and she was either hurt or we had horrible luck in the barrel pen. Coincidence? Maybe. I wont be doing it again though! LOL

If you do really hate the name and aren't superstitious (I am a little), then I'd say change it. Good luck with your new pony! Congrats!

We have changed the name on practially every horse that we have ever bought.  Only bad mojo if you believe in bad mojo.  Pretend you got him from the sale barn and don't know his previous name. lol  But what do I know?  I have even changed the registered name of a horse.  Didn't bother me or him.

I'm not superstitious whatsoever so I had zero problem changing my horses barn name. They called him Crush, I changed it to Cash. I have to really not be fond of a barn name to change it though. Funny story, when my very masculine hubby bought his rope horse, his barn name was huggie, he changed it to hammer right after he loaded him in the trailer lol!!

Roping horse name Huggie? Please (eye roll)  Hammer is a much better choice.

Your horse just change its name if you dont like what its named now. I have changed a name on a many of horses, if you believe in bad karma stuff then dont.

Lol! It was a really stupid name to call a big burly head horse! Haha! They referred to him as "Hugs" for short. The folks that raised him named him that apparently no one ever helped the poor guy out of it so it just stuck.

Well sure, of course we are and can! But some people think it's bad luck to do so. When I posted my new horse on Facebook and mentioned I was changing his barn name I had a handful of people tell me it was bad luck. Obviously it didnt deter me from changing it... I dont believe in that stuff so it didnt keep me up at night. Do as you please with what's yours and tell people to stay in their lane lol!

We used to claim a lot of horses so we just named them what stuck because we literally knew nothing about them, did just fine so I don't really believe in bad mojo.  I think most horses know what you sound like, what your truck sounds like, how you smell etc. not so much their name so it really never bothered me.

^^^^ THIS .... if they only recognized their name then why do all 3 (or more) horses in the pasture come running when you call one's name .....LOL

I have changed all my horses that were fairly young.

Bailey - Blitz

Mac - Crush

Josie - Moxie

I personally dont have a superstition on it. I also see horses called "bay mare" or red and to me thats not a name, so if you change those... why i not change others?

The two i didnt change their names are currently giving me problems.... so i dont think it matters

I normally keep the barn name but have changed it on 2 horses with no issues.

I changed the barn name of the horse in my avatar, from Chance to Hoppy,  a few months after I got him. Another boarder dubbed him, Hoppy, the copper hopper and it just stuck. Why? Because he just was.

My hubby has done all the talking to the sellers of this horse we are going to look at Saturday, he asked pretty much every single question I would have asked EXCEPT what's the horses name! Lol! Cant wait to hear what they call him. My daughter has been staring at his pictures and videos and has come up with all kinds of names already. Fingers crossed hes the one!

ITS BAD LUCK!  PLUS HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF YOUR NAME WAS SAY "KELLY" (hypothetically) and you started a new job and everyone there decided to call you Agnus or Betty or any other name besides Kelly.. to me its just weird.. just my opinion.
