Those that use CBD products on your horses-  how does it effect them, when do you use it and why did you start it?

I got pellets for my horse (and capsules for myself) both to help with chronic pain. Saw no effect in either of us unfortunately.

I have a 24 year old gelding that has both his front knees blown up with arthritis but despite the looks, they don't bother him. What was bothering him was his right hip, he would turn funny, like walk his front end around in a circle instead of moving his back feet. Keep in mind he is no longer ridden this was just in pasture. He is one we kept simply to be a companion to our 25 year old gelding that will live out his life with us. I was watching how much trouble he was having getting around and listening to Married with Horses so I heard about the CBD they use. After researching it, having a heart attack at the cost I decided to try it. Now he is on it he is back to his grumpy, normal self, before he was hurting so bad he was miserable and very passive, not at all like him. I've ran out once and won't do that to him again, he went right back in 3 days to hurting and looking miserable. It's expensive but he is my proof it works so to me it's worth it to see him comfortable and grouchy!

CBD is not for everyone, but it is for most!  Works great for help with sleep, pain, anxiety and much more.  For horses, dogs, cats and humans.

Not sure of the dosage of the above posters, but some take more than others.  I take 10mg gummie at night and sleep like a ROCK!  I give 4mg to my 14 year old dog and he is moving around much easier.  I give crumbles to my horse and it has helped her allergies and anxiety.  BUT YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE RIGHT AMOUNT and that is something you just have to experiment with.  Some horses, dogs and people can tolerate more, some less.  Kind of like drinking.  I can only tolerate one beer, but you might be able to drink the whole 6 pack!  lol

It DOES depend on what type you get, full spectrum, broad spectrum, or isolate.  Some have a trace amount of THC, some have NONE.

Here's a great article about it.

https://medium.com/cbd-origin/full-spectrum-vs-broad-spectrum-vs-cbd-isolate-the-difference-explained-a09e415bf235

Make sure when you are shopping for CBD, you get what you want, and that it has been tested for guaranteed amounts per serving.

I, myself, see a difference in my animals and myself using the CBD.

Good luck, whichever you choose!

The type of CBD used is IMPERATIVE depending on what you're looking to accomplish. This is partly why it sucks that so many companies are jumping on the CBD train, trying to sell things and they may not work. Then people think "oh, CBD doesn't work".

I use CBD crumbles from PhytoSana on my horses daily for arthritis pain and inflammation, gut health, and the array that CBD can do when it interacts with the endocannabinoid system by helping create homeostasis.

MANY MANY MANY people are using CBD pre-run to help easy anxiety in their horses with huge success. Having said that, typically a full spectrum product is best for that and maybe try an oil. PhytoSana also has an oil that you can get about 10 runs out of for $59.99. Much cheaper than paste, and it works!

It's important to know what you're feeding! Buy from a company that's 3rd party lab verified, and know what type of CBD you're giving.

Does this product use Nano Technology also?

Tried it for two months on my nervous gelding. Did nothing noticeable. It was expensive so I quit after 60 days.

Jury is still out for me on nano technology. I know some are touting that it's more easily absorbed but, others claim that by breaking down the CBD molecules in to nanosize that they begin to act differently. I've seen too many positive results without nano technology, and knowing the products are still absorbed, to feel the need to head that direction. I do believe that the carrier oil used in CBD products is imperative for absorption though! To answer your original question, no these products aren't nano technology.

I have chronic pain and have had zero luck with CBD alone, even though I bought a very expensive, highly recommended and reviewed brand. Give me a gummie that's a 1:1 of THC and CBD though, and I am ready to go dancing it works so well. If you talk to people in Colorado at dispensaries, lots will tell you CBD alone doesn't do much for pain. I doubt you want to give THC to a horse, however...

Do folks consider the safety of administering these CBD products?  They are not regulated so you may not be getting the concentration you think you are...and how do you determine a safe and effective dose?  The safety part is what I'm getting at here.  Just scaling the dose based on weight of the animal (human to dog to horse) is a flawed methodology.  Consider how the doasage for firocoxib (equioxx/previcox) differs for dogs and horses.  My weenie dog would get the same dose as my horse.

On the safety aspect...CBD is being found to have some rather undesirable side effects:

"Animal studies have reported increased liver weights in rhesus monkeys and elevated liver enzymes in dogs when CBD was administered at doses as low as 2 mg/kg of body weight [,]. In recent clinical trials, elevated liver enzymes were observed in 5–20% of patients treated with CBD, and a few patients were withdrawn due to the threat of fulminant liver failure [,,]."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6539990/

Just want folks to consider that just because a product comes from a "natural" source...doesn't mean it is inherently beneficial and never a risk.

Using a Full Spectrum product will provide additional cannabinoids, including trace amounts of THC of up to .3% (that's point 3). Which is miniscule! And, it's the federal legal limit and available without a prescription. Having that tiny amount can help increase the effectiveness of the additional cannabinoids including CBD for certain people.

I'm glad you've found success with taking CBD, that's great! Having said that, I personally couldn't take something with a 1:1 ratio of THC. Not only would I hate how that would make me feel, that would fail a drug test. But I know it helps many people and I'm a fan of that!

I'm one of the people who absolutely "can" just take just CBD and get a great result. I had chronic pain from a bad back, including arthritis in my facet joints and CBD Isolate has taken away my pain completely. Again, this is why I've stressed that the type of CBD you take is relative. If someone says it didn't work for them, maybe they need a different type.

I hope people are considering safety as a factor! And if they're considering CBD that they're working with companies that are transparent and provide 3rd party lab testing for purity. Not only to verify potency for accurate dosing but, products made with pesticides or heavy metals can attribute to causing additional health concerns as well. You have to know what you're putting in your body!
