Today is
So my gelding when he stands is constantly shifting his weight on the hind end. Sometimes even picking a leg up and holding for just a second. He is not sore anywhere, isnt nervous, goes in and does his job anytime I ask. Had his hocks done in June so I am hoping its not that. He is 7. I think I read somewhere that this is a sign of ulcers, but he doesnt have any other symptoms. Any ideas??
Has he always done this or is it a new development?
If this is a new thing... Have you changed anything recently like saddle, pad or boots? I've had some do silly things like that if their back is sore, and I have one that will absolutely lose his mind if I put anything but polo wraps on his back legs literally holding them up one at a time and kicking out, crossing his legs or rubbing them against eachother like they're burning his legs (weirdo... but the good ones always have their quirks am I right? lol)
I'd test for EPM, scope for ulcers and if neither of those show anything then have a lameness exam done. It may be that now that his hocks are feeling better a stifle issue has become more apparent. Good luck and I hope you figure out whats going on with your boy!
My gelding would do this when we were standing... he would always shift his weight. He was uncomfortable... he ended up having kissing spine. The kissing spine lead to sore stifles, hocks...
Friend just had her horse diagnosed with DSLD and hes been doing the same thing. He keeps shifting back and forth. Both suspensories are shot on her horse. So maybe check suspensories
My clients horse does this when his SI joint is sore.
My horses do this also but they have DSLD.
I would also check for a bean.

I agree with SI. My horse started doing the same thing after a weekend clinic. She would also lay down a lot. I had a chiropractor work on her an acupuncture. After 2 visits she was back to normal. I was thankful as board buddies on here helped me with the suggestions. Good luck!
