I have heard how destructive they are to agriculture of all types (animal or plant) and can only applaud all hunters that try to help with the issue. I'm sure the pigs play a beneficial part in nature in normal numbers, but they have overrun their territories and are in need of serious thinning. We have to thin the deer here in northern VA annually so completely understand.
Most of them aren't native to the US. They were brought over here just like pheasants from other countries to hunt. They are hard to contain, though, so they escape from these hunting ranches and run wild.
