Sorry for all the posts in one day, but how long does it take usually to see results from stifle injections? My horse was injected with depo and HA on Saturday. I can flex his stifle similar to the vet and it doesn't seem to bother him nearly as much as it did when the vet was doing the lameness exam, but he still doesn't like his back leg to be stretched out like how the farrier does it? And he still seems to be grumpy.

In my experience with stifle issues with my horses, I have never had stifle injections help. As a general rule of thumb, injections should "kick in" in about a week.

Did your vet ultrasound the stifles? (Important to make sure there isn't a tear.)

X-ray the stifles? (Although rare, important to make sure there aren't any bony changes.)

I tested it again last night and he stretched out better like how the farrier does it. I also mimicked how the vet was doing it and his right one was still a little touchy but his left was fine. So I guess there is some improvement coming slowly maybe? He did not ultrasound it. He is supposed to be calling me tomorrow and I will let him know how he is doing and see what he thinks we should do. Have you ever used something like adequan?

It can take between 10-14 days for a horse to get relief after a stifle injection .

pulling his legs under him, not wanting to unbend his hocks and stretch them out for the shoer indicates more hock soreness than stifle soreness.

He did better last night stretching, I had a couple people say the stifle injections takes longer like you said . The vet advised his hocks are still doing fine right now so hopefully he was right!

Yes I have used Adequan. I've used it for Red and I do feel like it helps him move a lot better after a dose.

I'll be putting Shotgun on it next year, as a preventative.

Eh, he still isn't fully using his rear end. Seemed to be sore in the SI area. Wondering if that was more of the cause instead of the stifles. Not sure if you believe in the acu-life patches, but I left them on all day and night and the next day on the SI area he used his rear end a lot more than the first day. She used double the pressure after the patches were on all night and he barely twitched. Also later that day I let him out in the pasture and he actually ran a little, usually he does not. I could be wrong, but I think this is the final area that needs taken care of.  I will be taking him back to the vet this week to get it checked out. I am also going to ask him about his TMJ. I read some people inject it, and usually it only is done once? Ever since I first got him, his teeth were a disaster. I have had my teeth person try to correct for a year and a half now and took him to a craniel specialist and it has not worked. I think an injection there could relieve a lot for him. This horse just seems to be a mess everywhere, I did not get him until he was about 13 and I'm guessing I'm dealing with all the effects that should have been taken care of before. He has not had the legs ran off him or anything before me. I think something is creating a chain effect. He also has a club foot and I was told club foot horses can be more difficult? It's starting to feel like trial and error and at this point.

It has only been around 2 and 1/2 weeks post stifle injections. Is it too soon to take him back to the vet to check his SI?
