What saddle do you recommend for a horse with a prominent wither that also has some rock/curve to the bars? With what pad? Bonus points if your horse has similar back conformation and you could share pictures of their back with and without the saddle set up you use.

I got this new mare and the old owner had been riding her in a new style corriente with a few different 1" pads and they all appeared to fit well. I have an old style Corriente and it seems ok with a bio fit pad but scoots forward if I lunge her and sort pops up in the back. It stays put when I ride. From what I understand all of the Corriente barrels saddles are the same fit. But apparently not? 

The best saddle In my opinion for that conformation would be a Caldwell Rocket. They are made for backs just like that. Having said that , they will run you 3k plus for the saddle unless you can find one used. A Charmayne James regular tree would also be a good option and more budget friendly. 

Thank you! I will definitely look for a Caldwell used and also the Charmayne James Regular tree. If I can find it used it won't be too bad. $3k is a little out of my budget after buying the horse. :D

If your needing rock to the bars the best saddle out there would be a Double J #10 with a 5 Star pad, 3/4 if the saddle fits good.

I have a mare similar shape on top, but she is a little more round... It was hard finding a saddle the fit her without spending an insane amoutn of money! Martin Crown C has fit her really nicely. Sometimes you have to shim with the saddle, but it fits amazing and it is incredibly comfortable for me as well.

I second Caldwell Rocket... you can find used ones in the 2-2500 range on the used caldwell saddle fb page. There are several on there now.  

Maybe try a Triple Creek. Their Steele tree has some rock, and flair to the front.

I second this. This mare rides in a #10 and I like it on her. The last picture is her with a 1/2" pad. I prefer her with a 3/4" pad, but I'm not going to complain when I have help saddling! lol

To me, it looks like the horse has some muscle atrophy in the back from a possibly too tight saddle - or a saddle that was "bouncing" on the back, causing some discomfort & the horse "shrinking away" from that.  I think you are going to have to shim a while to get it back up.  I would find the saddle that fits best & then buy a good pad that compliments that fit.  I do prefer & sell 5 Stars since they have the support & won't "squish down" when saddled & doing events - the support stays consistent.  With them, you don't want to go too thick or you have a too tight fit.  (think: your pair of boots fit good now - but if you put a really thick pair of socks on, are they going to give you more "cushion" or make the boots too tight & uncomfortable?).   I would also consider the Flex Fit if you decide to go w/the 5 Star.  If I can help you with any of that, please msg me.
