Interested in trying a pre-run CBD paste for my horse. Does anyone have any reviews? I'm not looking for a daily supplement. I think Placentea makes a CBD paste, has anyone tried it?

I use Plantacea /Kahm brand and love the product but buy the pellets it’s far cheaper than the paste and you can just mix the dose with a handful of grain they’ll eat it if you just want to use pre race. Mine eat the pellets without grain even.

Could we have a full discussion about CBD for horses? I have used the CBD oil for myself for pain from inflammation.  What things would you use the pellets for and how do they help?

Or a discussion about the CBD Oil for both horses and humans as I have tried various brands of the CBD oil for pain and nothing works for me in taking away the pain.

Just because something is considered "natural" doesn't mean it is safe or good for you.  CBD may be a good case in point.  Now that it has become a popular fad there are more studies being done to look at both it's benefits...and it's risks.  This study is being conducted by colleagues of mine that I know and trust to do good science.  What they are seeing from the CBD oil and the damage and stress it puts on the liver have me thinking I'll stay away from the stuff for now.

Hepatotoxicity of a Cannabidiol-Rich Cannabis Extract

And here is a link to a more lay friendly write up on the study.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeadams/2019/06/18/marijuana-study-finds-cbd-can-cause-liver-damage/#3ac795fd43ff

One other aspect to consider is the lack of regulation of these compounds/products. Are you getting CBD?  At a known concentration even?  AND...how has the appropriate dosage for horses even been determined?  We all know different species metabolize drugs differently.  Take firocoxib (Equioxx/Previcox) for example.  The dose for my 14# weenie dog is the same as the dose for my 1000# horse.

This link is the rebuttal to the forbes article.  CBD doesn't work for everyone.....but it works for most everyone!

Think about it too, the medical industry doens't want CBD to work, they sell drugs........so they try to scare you with articles like that.

To the OP, I think CBD oil would be better for your horse before you run.  It's easy to give and you don't have to give a lot to get results.

With that said, make sure you are giving the right amount, and give it at least 2 hours before your run.

Good luck with what ever you choose!

I highly recommend PhytoSana CBD oil vs. paste pre-run. It WORKS! They have a full spectrum oil and a broad spectrum oil. I've had much better luck than the CBD isolate paste that is out there. And they're extremly cost effective. You can get about 10 runs out of their full spectrum oil for only $59.99.

For people who are saying CBD didn't work. You may need to try a different type. There's 3 different types of CBD. Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Isolate. It's helped a TON of people! I personally no longer have to take any prescription anti-inflammatories for back pain and I only take 10mg of CBD a day.

For the above comment talking about liver damage. The study they did was dosages of 20mg per kg. That's ASTRONOMICAL amounts of CBD. Like thousands of milligrams... of course you're gonna see liver damage! Take 20 times the amount of Tylenol you should take and you'll likely see liver damage too.

Here is another article which debunks that article.... https://www.projectcbd.org/science/cbd-toxic-liver

It's probably pretty obvious that I'm a huge CBD fan. Ive seen it do so many things for so many people and horses. But, what you buy is important. So is knowing what you're buying from a company who provides 3rd party lab testing for purity and potency.

I'm glad you showed up.  So which type is the best for your money?  The bottle I have is full spectrum and isolate together. Is that the best type?   Could you go into which form, isolate, full spectrum or broad spectrum, is the most effective form to ingest?

I have a horse that might be benefited from this as well. I'd like to feed it daily though.  Is that something that would work for him? Pellets?  TIA

Here's an article you can read about the 3 different types of CBD.

https://www.phytosanacbd.com/full-spectrum-vs-broad-spectrum-vs-cbd-...

If you were going to feed daily, then the Phyto Sana Full Spectrum crumbles would work best for you.  Pre-race, you might like the Full Spectrum oil.  Phyto Sana also offers a Broad Spectrum oil, for those horses that might be tested, as it is THC free.

In a nutshell,

-Isolate-In scientific terms, an isolate is the purest form of a compound, which is produced by singularly extracting that compound from its environment and isolating it from all other compounds.

With that being said, CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD, which is produced by removing all other compounds found in the plant including terpenes, flavonoids, plant parts, and other cannabinoids.

CBD Isolate is typically extracted from Hemp, due to its low to non-existent THC-content.

-Full spectrum CBD is an extract that contains all compounds found naturally occurring in the plant, including terpenes, essential oils, and other cannabinoids.

-Broad spectrum CBD is a bit of a mix between Full Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate.  Like Full Spectrum CBD, the other compounds found within the plant are preserved in the extract; however, like CBD Isolate, THC is completely removed.

Have a great day!

As far as the best type for the money... full spectrum is most cost effective. It contains all parts of the plant with nothing extracted. The extraction process that takes place to create a broad spectrum and isolate product, is an additional cost. Which is why you tend to see those types cost more.

The product you say that is both Full Spectrum and Isolate is confusing to me (?). Is this product stating it's "both" within one product? Because that doesn't make sense. Full spectrum is the entire plant, including CBD and all of the other cannabinoids that come with the particular hemp crop (such as CBDa, CBG, CBN, and more...) Whereas Isolate is only CBD that's been extracted from the plant and nothing else. Having said that, there are product lines that do have all types available but, not in one product.... I hope I'm explaining that clearly.

As far as what's most effective to ingest, do you mean which form? Because an oil is the most readily absorbed. It goes directly in to the blood stream. Where as the crumbles and pellets need to be processed by the liver. That is why you'll "typically" need less mg's of CBD in an oil form to be effective. Having said that, it absolutely does not mean the crumbles or pellets aren't effective! But, a horse that's doing well on say 125mg per day of crumbles or pellets, may only need 75-100mg in an oil form.

However, the oil is more expensive to use so I always recommend the crumbles for cases where people want to feed it daily (for general health, arthritis, inflammation, training, etc) and oil if they're only looking to give CBD pre-run. Oil absorbs faster too.

And for type (again speaking for horses) I always recommend to start with a Full Spectrum product. It's got a broad range of cannabinoids and, has shown to be effective in what people are typically looking for. I personally feed the PhytoSana crumbles daily. They're a high quality product with no binders, and very cost effective. Their COA (certificate of analysis) is on their website as well. And it's clean... no pesticides, heavy metals, etc..

For people... I personally do best on the CBD Isolate products (again I take PhytoSana brand with their gummies)... Full spectrum makes me a bit tired. Albeit it does help a lot of other people and some people need some of the additional support that comes from the other cannabinoids in the plant! I may move up to a broad spectrum oil if I ever need to. But, right now the Isolate gummies keep me goin good.

I hope that helps!!

I think CBD products might have positive effects on horses as well, Be sure to chek the manyfacture you're purchasing this paste since only high-quality priducts can have the results you wait. For example cbdoilboard.com/ is regarded to be a trusting source, you can just  find out all recommendations how to  use this great product

Let's not hijack the op's thread lol I don't know about pastes sorry but I have to say...

like anything you have to consider and know your source. It DOES work. My dad is a mechanic and he had such pain in his feet he was really suffering. He tried everything from different boots, insoles etc but he chose not to continually take otc drugs because of the risk of liver damage. He was at his wits end so I told him to try the brand of cbd that I use. And he has no more pain. And it is 0 thc. Not .03% like most of them really are, that say they have 0! So pm me if you want to know about it.

I fed my anxious gelding one brand for 2 months, and another brand for another 2 months. I saw no difference in him whatsoever. For something as pricey as the daily pellets, I could not justify continuing use.

Again, dosage and type of CBD is what makes the difference. If feeding a horse 25mg of CBD (as some companies suggest as a dose ), it's not gonna do much. Most horses use between 70-140mg per day (1-2 scoops of PhytoSana crumbles).

Also, some horses do better on Full Spectrum vs Broad Spectrum.

There are SO MANY companies jumping on the CBD bandwagon right now. And I guarantee you not all are created equal. You have to feed the proper amount and type for each individual.
