I figured Bluebonnet deserved it's own thread on this announcement. I spoke with the rep last night after I saw a post she made on Facebook about a sneak peek. They came out with a new feed on their Equiliene line. She told me its similar to Triple Crowns complete except lower NSC. Ill.post the pics she posted on the Facebook page. It looks really good, has some additional things in it I've never heard of. But does contain the ButiPearl Z EQ  (like the tc) she said the consistency is going to be similar to the TC, being a textured like feed. I absolutely loved the TC complete texture but always wondered about the higher NSC because of the oats. Was told should be available for dealers to purchase as early as next week. I'm going to ask my BB to get me a bag as soon as they can!

We are so excited about this new product. I can not wait to get it in. It also is very similar to the TC Senior when I put our comparisons together.

The plasma is definitely an interesting ingredient but I read thru all the bluebonnet research on it and it seems like it's an amazing addition. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on it! Is it that lifeline supplement?

I want to know why wheat middlings have to be in all bagged products? I gave up on bagged feeds because of this one ingredient that has no place in horse feed as far as I know. There are many bagged feeds in todays market that would be stellar to me if only wheat middlings would not be in the ingredient list.

Why do you feel that wheat middlings have no place in horse feed?

In general I think that Bluebonnet does a nice job on their formulations and manufacturing. Nice people too. But, calling this a "beet pulp based feed" is very misleading. Beat pulp is the third ingredient on the list, therefore, the third in amount used in the formulation. Ahead of that is Dehydrated Alfalfa meal and rice hulls. There is no significant nutritional value in rice hulls. I wonder why they did not call this a "rice hull based feed" since it has more of that than beet pulp. Certainly one way to make it low NSC. Like I said, these people make some nice products, but promoting this one in this way is wrong.

If you look at Triple Crown who also calls their Senior and Complete beet pulp based.

There you go. The second label has more molasses than beet pulp. I don't think people would buy it if they called it "Molasses based feed". Maybe you would sell some as "alfalfa based feed". The marketing people say whatever they think the customer wants to hear and hope that the customer does not read the ingredient list. I honestly have never seen Molassas as the second ingredient. So, If that product is not dripping wet, and the molasses inclusion is actually fairly low,  then you can consider the vast majority (over 90+%) of the formula to just be alfalfa meal, and that would make for very expensive alfalfa.

This is from Dr. Nichols, director of nutrition at Bluebonnet FeedsWhen a feed is called “beet pulp based” it means beet pulp is one of the base ingredients (those in largest proportion within a formula). It is correct that ingredients are listed in order of predominance. However, what cannot be interpreted is the amount of each of the first three ingredients. For example if you look at 10 lb of feed, there could be 3.1 lb of ingredient A, 3.0 lb of Ingredient B, and 2.9 lb of Ingredient C, then 1 lb for all of the other ingredients combined. When a company calls a feed “beet pulp based” they are indicating beet pulp is included in the formula at an amount substantial enough to be considered a base ingredient.

I dont care how the ingredients are listed, like what's first, middle, last I still think Bluebonnet feed is Da bomb. I trust what they tell me, even when I was first starting to feed the TC lite and had a few questions Bluebonnet helped me out. BlueBonnet is a Rocking Feed company

I understand the logic, but not the formula. No matter what they say, there is still more rice hulls (the hard sharp husk that covers the rice) than beet pulp. Typically rice hulls are 3.5% protein, 1.5% fat and very high in insoluble fiber. This is a poor feed ingredient for horses to be listed second in volume in the feed. I like Bluebonnets for their safe mill and good customer service reputation. Other than just filling up the bag more, I don’t get this one.

So the order in which the ingredients are listed mean the amounts in the formula, like 1st ingredient listed is alfalfa meal so that would mean it has more of that than anything following? Hope that makes sense lol! I cant think of how I want to word that. So why not call it alfalfa based... I personally dont care what it's called as long as it has quality ingredients and is consistent and clean!

I like Bluebonnet, my horses like it and I still have my 31 year old on the Bluebonnet Elite Senior.  I took my other one off of any processed grain and he only gets a cup of Renew Gold.  I have not had any problems with Bluebonnet, but my one thing is all the ingredients that I cannot pronouced and I do not know what they are good for.  Just like in our diets if you cannot pronounce what is in this or that food how do you know if it is good for you?  I guess that is where the term "clean eating" comes into play.  So for my horses I am trying to transition to Renew Gold as I can pronounce all the ingredients.

I read it will be comparable in price to the intensify sr feed which last I can remember from a feedstore was $22-$25 ish... I haven't bought BB in so long from the feedstore since I can get it delivered from chewy. She said she wasnt sure when it would be ready for chewy. The feed will first be available hopefully next week but will be in plain generic bluebonnet bags since the bags they had designed for it wont be ready for a few months

Lol! Its something that is near and dear to me. I like to be in the know .... as much as I can anyway

I was just thinking the other day how long I've been feeding bluebonnet, it's been at least 6 years. I found it first when we lived in New Mexico. I remember driving over 2 hours to get it, one way and then a closer store started stocking it. I've tried a handful of other feeds throughout those years for some reason or another (mostly cost)  and always end up returning to bluebonnet because I had issues with quality or finding other junk in the bags. It may not be the least expensive feed out there but you just can't beat the quality and consistency of it compared to other complete feeds out there. Now having it available on chewy is the best option.. I'm coming and going so much these days with my boys in baseball (we got home last night after 11pm, we left home at noon for it) and starting our travel ball this upcoming weekend, I'll be gone ALOT! Having it delivered for me is so convenient! Plus it's always super fresh from chewy. Feeding just 1 horse I dont buy a whole bunch at once so I can keep the feed fresh.

Yes dealers can start ordering it Monday and we will have prices Monday as well.
I have been feeding BB for over 6yrs now. I love all their products along with Stride.
As a dealer now for almost 4yrs. They are so helpful and always back their product, dealers and are always continuing our education on all the feeds and products.
