Location: Livermore, California | Anyone use 'em? I just obtained another piece of land that has no power, I've used 110 electric fence with good results, what about solar/battery set ups? Any recommendations on brands that have worked for you?

Location: Jersey Girl | I used one for a short time to cut turn out in half until they go used to being on grass. I don't recall the brand, it was just whatever Tractor Supply had. I never had any problems with it. |

Location: Kansas | We bought one at the Co-Op for a small pen to keep horses from running down the fence. You needed to keep tabs on the meter to make sure it was running because a few cloudy days will dumb it down a bit. That or debris getting into the electric wire. |

Location: lone star state | Galleger is the best brand for perimeter fencing. compare jules when looking at different brands. galleger makes strong chargers, 50 miles that will not be affected by tall grass etc. also the ground determines strength so make sure you use a good ground and get it deep. |

Yep, Gallagher is the way to go. I have had three of them in the last 17 years, two are still going strong, one finally bit the dust about 2 years ago. The only maintenance has been buying new batteries for them every 4-5 years or so. I have tried two other brands and they just don't last like the Gallaghers. |

Location: Lone Star State | I like the Gallagher S20 and S40s. I worked on a cattle ranch that uses rotational grazing quite a bit and they had a multitude of fence chargers. Summertime, we were constantly setting up and moving temporary fences. These two were the best and easily portable. I personally have an S20.

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | I have about six acres of pasture fenced/divided with ElectroBraid and nothing but Solar chargers -- have had this set-up for nearly 20 years. Highly recommend stepping up to get the ElectroBraid for fencing -- it lasts longer -- well worth cost. |

| A cloudy spell will dampen the charge but generally they are great. Just keep them out of reach of curious mouths -- we have a horse who will chomp one in half if given a chance! |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I have 3 of these for different pastures and love them, but I do keep the grass low under the bottom wire so I dont have to worry about them, and once the horses touch them once or twice they wont go back for more and just stay away from the fence, I can leave them turned off and the horses still stay away, I turn them on about once a week for a few days then I can turn them off so the deer wont be hitting them when running threw the pastures. |

| They usually have a lower output than the ones that are plugged in. It may be enough, and it may not be. |

Location: North Dakota | Great thread!! Because I will need to buy one in a couple weeks. I will eventually have power hooked up but until then, I will need solar. |
