| local barrel racing club is throwing around an idea that so far I can't really find fault with. They want to run their barrel race in April using the social distancing regulations. They get about 100 entries at their races. All entries would be done online through pay pal, Venmo , etc. same with pay out. All electronic. No handling of money etc. no talking to anyone , no lines , etc. the draw will be in time slots with a total of 10 runners per slot. They are going to do 30 minute time slots for each 10. So your run time could be 9-930 am. You and 9 others cannot show up before 9. Saddle, warm up, make your run, be out by 930. Next 10 arrive from 930-10 etc. if your horse needs more warm up, you can do that at home before you load up ( most club members live within an hour of here). Personally I'm really considering going. Only issue I can see them running into is law enforcement maybe saying it's non essential. Which is totally true. I would consider this event safer than actually going to wal mart for toilet paper. Lol. What do you think? |

| I personally would not. This is absolutely no offense towards you or anyone that is considering going to this... but why cant everyone just wait this out. I've seen other clubs discussing this too, not just for barrels ... seems like it could turn into a cluster at some point. And .. not saying it would but if definitely could, there is ALWAYS a risk something could go wrong... putting yourself at risk, having to end up going to the hospital... I dont know about anyone else but that's the last place I'd want to have to go right now. But yes I do agree, you'd probably be less exposed going to this than running to the store to get a few things! I've been riding at home and yes theres a risk something could go bad here too, I realize that. I'm not sure how strict it is where you live but I'm not willing to get caught and pay a huge fine for not sheltering in place ... pulling a horse trailer ... unless you are going for an emergency vet visit. I want to haul to my local arena so bad to run my horse because my ground is terrible right now with all the rain we had... it's not far from my house! But I wont.... I dont need to be getting pulled over, i cant backroad it there. It's off a main highway into the city so I'd be spotted. I'm just going to suck it up and sit tight until this is over! The sooner more people do this, the sooner that will become a reality. There is people in Austin, TX literally still going to a natural spring and beaching, swimming and hanging out around hundreds of people! Those people have no regard for the rest of the community... it's like people are just begging for martial law |

Yep I'm in CA. And I never even considered the hospital visit / side of it. Totally correct!! With shortages of docs and hospital beds, don't need one to be filled with a crazy barrel racer. Lolol. I'm riding at home everyday to. That's why I asked on here , I figured someone would see a different side of it. I'm NOT going. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | My answer would be NO, the hospitals, Doctors, Nurses and all Heath care people are under so much stress because of the Coronavirus, I just think this would be so unfair, why risk going to a barrel race now, there will be plenty of races later down the road, lets all do our part stay home get this virus under control, lets help save lives do our part in helping these people{Health care workers} that are putting their lives on the line helping the people that are infected. |

Location: Arkansas | One of my best friend's daughters fell off her sister's horse yesterday and broke her arm--I told Mare the last place I'd want to be was the ER. She agreed. . . Granted we aren't a hot spot, but it's scary none the less. They have to go to LR this week to Children's to see a specialist.
That's Cartlynn on the left at the wedding. The other 2 pics are from yesterday when it was "horse 1, Cart 0" (her momma's words!).

Cupcake (Berklee) is the second flower girl--she turned 2 in January but we weren't sure she would be walking by the wedding, so she had a wagon that Cart pulled her down the aisle in. (She has Downs Syndrome.) Those 2 girls added so much joy and so many memories to the wedding, I just can't tell you.

| I don't mind one bit where the thread has gone. Puts everything into perspective. I had a wreck last October at a barrel race where my brand new off billet broke on my brand NEW barrel saddle. Totally freak piece of leather problem. Anyway , hospital for 2 days. Thanks all. |
