Those that have given Zyrtec (or the generic equivalent) have you noticed it making your horse drowsy? I am thinking about giving it to my horse who has seasonal allergies but not wanting to make him dopey. Equipulmin helps him but on the really bad days I feel like he needs more. Am not interested in feeding supplements, just looking for people's experience with this medication thanks!
I have used it and never had any issues. I have my yearling on it now. 1 per 100lbs
I've given the generic. mare had runny eyes, from allergies. Nothing worked until zyrtec. My gelding I currently have on it is suffering allergies from bug bites. Giving it a try with him, don't know if it's working for him yet. Amazon seems to be the least expensive.

Nope! I give my mare 100 mg (10 pills) a day for her respiratory allergies. She would always have a runny nose during the spring and summer and Zyrtec is the only thing that helped. She gets a break from it during the winter. If you know someone who has a COSTCO card or if you are a COSTCO member, you can get a 365 pill Bottle of generic Zyrtec for $15. It's the best deal that I have found.
Great! Thanks for the replies and info. I better get some bought!
I have also used it and never noticed any drowsiness in the horses.
Fourth day on the meds and first ride since starting. He wasn't his usual self and then I was trotting circles around the first barrel, when I stopped he acted dizzy and like he was going to fall over. Never had that happen before. Maybe I am the lucky one who's horse actually does get drowsy on it.
