Location: Dearing, GA | I feed a 12% right now but am transitioning to Renew Gold. I also just started feeding Purina Outlast as a top dressing, and am excited to see how that works in the ulcer prevention department. My horse gets several flakes of when she's in her stall, which is rare. Otherwise, she's on nutrient rich pasture with round bales out in the winter. Regular hoof maintenance and appropriate warm up & cool down keeps her muscles in good shape. If she's been on trashy ground or hauled long distances, I rub her legs with Sore No More and give her ProBios gel paste. My horse is 12, a solid 4D horse, and will loose and gain easily, so finding a good balanced diet is key with her.

Location: Illinois | Alfalfa in a slow feed net, 2lbs of soaked alfalfa pellets & apporox 1lb of Tribute Kalm n Ez....2x a day. It works for all of them, even the 27 year old Cushings guy so it's easier to feed just one kind. MVP Exceed 6 Way and Gastro-Plex are my main ones. I also do Vitamin E for one of them and everyone is on the Flaxin 3. It keeps their coats from getting dry and dull being in the sun all day. Keeps my black horse from fading too. Currently no joint injections needed, just retired the one I was running from an injury. But generally if they're getting hauled decently hard they get hocks done. Everyone also gets injectable glucosamine now, but it's for specific issues. Studies are now showing its nearly just as effective as Adequan, Legend, etc. And a whole lot cheaper. Muscle recovery: lots of walking to warm up and cool down. Like 15-20 minutes before and after the actual workout. DiO before and after too. I will also use my PHT some days. Being fit will be the best for overall muscle health. Mine get worked for an hour 5-6 days a week. One horse has to have 7 days a week, even if the extra day is just walking. Keeps his arthritis in check. Chiro, massage, pemf regularly as well to keep them comfortable. I also use a handheld massager a few days a week for 5-10 minutes.

| I love posts like this! My feed program is pretty simple. 5lbs Bluebonnet Omega Force (he's a hard keeper, 3lbs for my others), alfalfa/grass hay 24/7 and alfalfa cubes OR pellets 24/7 also along with 24/7 turnout on a seeded alfalfa/grass mix pasture. Supplements are KISS. (keep it stupid simple) -Summit JP for joints (I give 1-2x a month for my horse i run 2-3x a week) I used Adequan prior. -Lifeline+ by Stride (2 Scoops a Day) currently, but switching to Exceed 6 Way! (Lifeline has been AWESOME for my bleeders lung health, reduced the amount of lasix I give AND it's an awesome ulcer prevention). -Pure Equine Herbs Custom Mix. *Won some gastroplex in a FB giveaway, so I also just started giving it, but haven't noticed a noticable difference; about 2 weeks in. However the paste? Amazing, but don't need it AND Cep Gut Check imo. Pre-Run: Cep Gut Check and Outlast all 1/2-1hr out. Confidence EQ 15-20min out.

| Ulcer maintenance: Neutrabac pH is all we use for ulcers. It neutralizes stomach acid and reduces ulcer signs and symptoms. It's an all natural liquid oral drench. www.RunninBLivestock.com/NeutraBac-ph/ |

Location: TExas | Bluebonnet Equilene Pro Care. I was on the Sr Therapy for the last 4yrs due to having older bunch of horses. Now I have a younger bunch. a couple get alfalfa pellets, bc they can't eat hay well. High quality coastal hay. Supplements are all Stride Animal Health Products. All of them are on Lifeline, Turbo Mag(summer), Rewind I have one that is on Hind Gut Health bc he just came back from colt starter.

Location: Rc | I changed my feeding program a while back, and so far so good! I have 7 horses currently, but for time I'm only writing about 4. Barrel Racing mare: -13 Lbs Alfalfa -1.25 lbs Ultium Competition -Probios -(Dumor) MSM -(Finish Line) Electrolytes Barrel Racing/All-Around Gelding: -14 Lbs Alfalfa -.75 lbs Ultium Competition -.5 lbs Race13 -.5 oz Fluid Action HA -MSM -Electrolytes -1/4 cup Rice Bran Oil Yearlings: -8 Lbs Alfalfa -2 lbs Omolene 300 They also get coastal hay in front of them all day. During the winter, I add alfalfa pellets or cubes since the alfalfa isn't as nutritional. The amount varies for horse. I'm thinking about adding Supersport to Tequila's feed. As for muscle, a good conditioning regime helps out. Long trotting, hill work, etc.

Location: So Cal | I like to free feed hay, with the type of hay depending on the horse. The mare I run does best on an orchard/alfalfa mix, and my filly gets teff (she's a hotter horse and just seems to do best on the grass). Then they both get some soaked oat hay pellets plus 4lbs American Family Feed. They both look great with really nice coats. For joints I inject as needed, usually hocks twice/year (my mare is 14, nothing for the filly) but what helps the most with her soundness is very consistent exercise and keeping her in shape. I think a lot of people wonder why their horses come up sore when they ride them a couple times/month and then ask a lot of them at a barrel race. |
