If you have a bleeder that is on the hotter side for any kind of drill work - can they bleed / get uncomfortable doing them? (He is very very intense in his work - though he doesn't need to be and I try to keep him very quiet and soft) He has not bled out, It's internal.

I want to pick his confidence back up going around the barrels, which lasix will help him with in actual runs. BUT I am worried that doing drills or even loping the very occassional set at home could still be uncomfortable because of his "intensity"?

Maybe they have to be FULL BLOWN BALLSTOTHEWALL running to exert the force needed to burst capillaries, but I just don't know that answer yet. I dont want to be killing his confidence at home and expecting to build it when he's on lasix at a run. Help.

My bleeder is pretty severe, pretty sensitive. I don't use lasix unless I'm going to the track and breezing OR running/competing. I rarely go over 80% at home, a lot more walking, trotting, slow loping over anything else. I also have him on a daily supplement, vicks him if I feel like it may help (humid, hot, super cold, etc).

Thanks for the comment! So it is definitely something to be aware of at home, working away from the pattern.

This is brand, brand new and I am learning as fast as I can. I want to build his lungs as best as I can without making them bleed. Best things to do? Lope?

What daily supplement do you use?

He is not on anything specific to lungs at this point.  He is on Platinum Gastric for his tummy.

Mine would get strong at home working pattern just from habit, he knew barrels usually meant bleeding. So he'd be an absolute ass at home. Even if they were just set up and not even being paid attention to. Took months off the pattern at home, but just left them standing. He eventually calmed down. The MVP AirWay EQ worked really well for him, and between that and their paste i could pull him off lasix when I ran and he was fine. He was a moderate bleeder though. Building up to a lot of long trotting, loping, and working in some breezing/sprinting is your best option. You could try a flair strip or lasix days you want to breeze just in case until you build lungs up. Conditioning one won't stop the bleeding, but sometimes can decrease the occurence of bleeding when they're not exerting full force. I've known some to bleed at moderate lopes

I appreciate the feedback. It of course makes sense.  I dont pattern him at home - maybe once or twice a summer if I need to tweak something.  But the drills I do involve the barrels set in various ways.

I think we will back away from true drills and just work on trotting / loping and backing.  I will just cross my fingers that him feeling better all around will put the rate back in  him like it used to be.
