Subject: Painted Pitchfork Brand Question

Location: USA		I just recently bought a OT QH mare and she was originally from Rifle, CO with a brand on her left hip and it's called the Painted Pitchfork. I was just wondering if anybody had some info on this brand and what they mostly bred and if it was a good brand.

The Painted Pitchfork has always had nice horses. They were mainly into paints but branched out into the QH's at some point. 

John and Neva Downing own it (I believe it's John, could be wrong on that name). Very nice people.  

The first horse that had that was well know was Versary Boy who had something like 785 APHA Performance Points. They tried to get an SI on him but he couldn't run. But the jock sure had fun on a horse that actually knew how to stop if spin, lol!

I believe they branched into the QH racing in the mid to late 80's? They ran at Arapahoe Park the same time my parents were so we saw them a lot. But that was years ago and for all I know, John and Neva could have passed away by now.

As for what they bred... it was a little of everything. Performance and race, paints and QH's.  They have a website, but there isn't a lot on it. It looks like they sort of started mixing the two and have some nice using type horses now.

I owned a sorrel painted pitchfork mare, sorrel. I had to sell her due to personal things, here in Georgia. I bought her straight from the track and trained her to barrel race her myself. Where are you located? Pics?

They have pretty nice horses,  I really liked the one that I ended up being forced to sell.  I miss that mare.
