Hello,

My current saddle has rough out jockeys but I found a deal on a nice saddle but it has a ostrich or gator seat and smooth jockeys...... anyone like running in smooth jockeys? Is there anything I can do to the jockeys if I don't like them?

Thanks

The saddle will be a bit more slick with the smooth jockeys. I guess if you dont like the Jockeys being smooth I think theres some kind of spray adhesive that you can use to make it a bit sticky or use the Black Rock leather N Rich on the jockeys and that will help, but it could darken the leather a little, I use the Black Rock on my Caldwells seat.

Replacing the jockeys is an easy fix if you have access to a good saddle shop.

I have never heard of the jockeys being replaced on saddles, looks like a tough job. Just looking at my saddle you would have to take it all apart, but I could be wrong, lol. I have had seats replaced so I'm guessing the jockeys would be easy for a pro.

They are definitely 'slicker' than a rough out, but IMO I prefer it over a rough out. I like to be able to move in my saddle and feel my horse, especially during dry work so I don't like the roughout 'sticky' feeling.

I would be more worried about the ostrich or gator seat being slick than the smooth leather.
