I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, but for those of you who have had a discectomy, how soon were you back on the horse and competing?
I know everybody is different, but I plan to be back on a horse in 6 to 8 weeks in competing at 3 months after surgery. I'm very active and fit now and plan to become very active after surgery, LOTS of walking and probably lunging horses.
Tips would be appreciated. Thank you all
I think it depends on what you have done as to how long you get back to riding and activities. My first back surgery was minor compared to my upcoming back surgery. I expect a longer time to be off my horses this time and my doctor said it's slow going for at least six weeks, then you start to feel better. And I know how to answer the question about how do you know when it's time to go ahead with the surgery.....I know because I wondered for a long time (years) and finally I knew I couldn't live in this pain for the rest of my life. It's pretty clear cut when you decide. You just know. Good luck and prayers to all. Back pain is awful.
