 Having Smokin Bandits

Location: Woodstown, NJ | Well, the shock collar worked! Thanks everyone! I was a little nervous about using it at first and I can see that it could easily fall into the wrong hands and I don't mean just animal abusers. You have to use it correctly because you don't want to hurt the dog. I think my experience with training horses helped because I understand timing and pressure and also I had Invisible Fence before so I understood the concept. I only had to zap him on a low level a couple of times after he ignored the beep. During one of those incidents, he was chasing the horses. Not to bite them. He's not agressive. Just likes to chase. And that caused the horses to go crazy as you can imagine. But once I zapped him, he slammed on the brakes and did a rollback, lol. So far he has never done it again. Now I am at the point where he comes when I call him and I don't even have to beep it. I even let him loose without the shock collar when I can watch him. He walks around loose with the horses and in fact, he's a little too calm when he's around them because yesterday he was standing UNDER one. It won't be long before I don't use the collar at all. It's an excellent training tool for a dog who needs a stronger command. I did all the training with leashes and longelines and positive reinforcement. I lost almost ten pounds because I walked him so much to try to train him. I worked with him consistently for months. Nothing worked and I didn't get a dog to tie him up all day. I'm happy. He's happy. He has a wonderful life now running around, having fun, keeping me company. He can't believe how good he has it now. So thanks everyone! |
