ANyone had it done? My good mare is 16 this year and she is named " Hot sauce" for a reason. SUPER hard worker. SHe does not walk, everywhere she goes is 1,000mph with everything she has. LOL. She is a nice 1D mare and I rope some on her to. She has had coffin joints and hocks done twice a year for several years now and they last about 4-6 months depending. Vet suggested we switch to IRAP from here on out and I have to agree. I just don't have any experience with it. Cost is 865.00 which I guess is about comperable to hocks and coffins comparatively. How long does it last???? THanks!

I just did the first injection a couple weeks ago.  So far so good.  It is expensive but I know people who have had good success with it, at least for a couple years.

Nice! My vet charges 895 for the initial draw plus 150 to inject so looks right at a grand.

I tried ProStride 2 years ago for my horse instead of the steroid cocktail. I did not feel it helped anymore than the steroids did, so it was not worth the price for him. He has navicular problems although his xrays are totally clean.

What has worked amazing wonders for him is Pentosan. Gave loading dose, (one shot every week for 4 weeks) and I continue on every 2 weeks on the nose. It has really been life changing for him.

Adequan helped too, but no way I can afford to give Adequan every 2 weeks.

I used it as part of post stifle surgery therapy on a horse.  He made a full recovery and went back to running barrels.  I can't say how much it helped other than the surgeon's experience with it had been very positive.

You get what you give

came on here to say i also agree with prostride or the IRAP.

the IRAP is expensive up front but depending on how much you are injecting it can end up costing less than steroids, but since you would be doing both hocks and coffins i dont think that would end up being the case for you. How much IRAP depends on how well the incubation goes.. sometimes you get a lot of doses and sometimes not as much. I think its either a 50 or 60 ml blood draw, and then after you incubate it over night and spin it down ive always drawn up 3cc doses... sometimes i would get up to 10 doses.. so if you do the 3 injection loading series, and you inject both coffins and both DITs and TMTs, youre going to use a ton of your IRAP up fast. IDK how much your vet was going to inject in each joint at a time. the prostride is going to cost more but it isnt a loading dose.. but to get enough prostride to do both hocks and both coffins, probably will need two kits at least.

I am probably one of the few that is pretty anti IRAP. I used this therapy in the navicular bursa of my horse that went septic. I almost lost the horse and spent close to 20k to keep a gelding alive. We have successfully done regular injections into the bursa after the infection- not going to lie- I lay awake at night for the first week waiting for the signs to appear.
