Location: USA | I'm just looking for some feed back of people who have experienced the same thing. My colt had 2 colic surgeries within 2 days. He displaced his colon. He then coliced a third time and was given a 10% chance of survival. He has pulled through... I have him home now.. but we are on a day to day basis with him. I'm praying he pulls through without any more incidents. Has anyone else have a horse with this similar experience? What was your outcome? Did your horse continue to relasp and have issues? He is the only horse I have to ride and I'm wondering if I need to find another prospect just incase things go south. Please share your experieces with me.... |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I had colic surgery done on my gelding when he displaced his colon, he come out of that with flying colors and never had another colic issue for the rest of his life. Does your Vet have any ideals why hes colicing like this? Did he displace his colon for a second time and the reason for the second surgery? |

Yes he did displace a second time. She did not know why... if she told me why I am sure it went out my head as fast as she said it. It was all a blurr. |

I wonder if your horse got bloated and cause the colon to get entraped again, When I had the surgery done on my gelding it was because he got gas colic and it caused him to bloat up and pretty sure that caused the entrapment, did your vet say anything about your horse getting bloated? I changed up my gelding's diet, the diet he was on must have been to much for him so put him on a lower NCS diet. And watched the hay he had, the alfalfa was to much for him, so I cut out the alfalfa hay. And never had a problem with him again after his surgery, and I think with the diet change it helped.. |

| I had one displace. We just never knbew why. he did it at a barrel race. He ran, then cooled him out, and he drank like 2 buckets of water. Just before I left the race I let him Roll. As soon as I got home from the race he was in severe pain. They think when he rolled with the 10 gallons of water it somehow caused it. After surgery he was fine, didn't even change his diet. |

I can see why this horse displaced, 10 gallons of water and rolling would do it, That would be why is my guess.. |

Location: Texas | Relapse can happen with some displacements. Many times they get fixed and thats all they need, but I have seen a few where they continually re-displace and end up euthanized. |

We have gotten a lot of mositure so our pastures are growing again and I think the new grass caused it. That is my opinion since the vet didn't know. The third time he coliced he was bloated and they sedated him and was able to deflate him and by sedating him he was able to relax and his stomach went back into place.

Thats just scary, Gas colic sure can cause problems. Glad that you have been on top of this, colic is so tricky sometimes. I hope that all works out for this gelding, just watch what you feed him for awhile, sounds like you are doing everything you can at this point, I just hope the gas/bloating dont happen anymore.. |

Location: Tulsa, Ok | I had a futurity colt roll his gut at the base of the cecum. Our best guess is he filled up on grass, drank from the pond and developed a belly ache. Apparently got down rolling around and twisted. In surgery they flipped it back and stiched in place. He never had another problem. I on the other hand was a basket case. I think I got up in the middle of the night to go check on him for six months. |
