My horse who foundered and rotated last summer has grown a whole new , normal foot, and is back to running cans and roping steers. I had never heard of these freedom shoes but my farrier said they would be amazing for my horse! So far so good! They work on navicular , foundered, laminitic, and other foot soreness issues. Just had to share.
I had to check them out, this looks pretty promising!!!
What is under the shoe? Does it cause thrush? How do you clean it? How much is a set?

There is one layer of hoof pack very similar to the Eva foam found in cloud boots. Farrier said you can use a hood pick fo clean the spaces under but not necessary. He sanitized the whole bottom of the foot before putting the shoes on. A set alone runs about 75.00 and can be reset usually twice so you get 3 shoeing cycles.
Do they provide enough traction? I feel like there would be alot of slipping with these?

That was a question I had as well. According to my farrier the horses he has used them on both barrel and rope horses seem to be fine. He did leave the nail heads a little long for grip on the outside. To be honest , I don't think they would do well traction wise on hard slick ground to be honest. But since he foundered I only plan to run him on good ground so hoping for the best there!
Very very cool! Be anxious to hear how he feels in a competition run in his new kixs!! Amazing that he's even back at this point of soundness and back to running after his battle with laminitis.

Yep! You know his whole story. LOL I take it day by day and have no expectations. For sure he will only get run on great ground and when its really worth it with lots of added money. Not running him on trash ground at a no money added. LOL
