I need ideas for a teen rider to get a better seat during fast turns.  My son is riding a new horse this year that is very quick and turny.  In general the horse is usually one step ahead of my son.  This horse hadn't been run for a number of years.  Now that he has been back at it a handful of shows this summer he's getter faster and the turns are getting tighter and knocks are happening.   I need some drills or exercises for my son that will improve his reaction time, help him get past the barrel, and sit the turn better.  He says he tries to pull him off the barrel but what I see is him pulling himself away from the barrel and ending up on the side of the horse who is still turning and doing his job.  Any help is appreciated

Shorten your stirrups a notch.

I line up 6 barrels in a row. Start left or right circling each barrel. Do all right turns & all left turns. Do this 2 handed. Not only does it help with balance it helps with teaching your child to take a step past a barrel to avoid hitting it. Also bareback riding is great for balance.
