I see so many barrel trainers advertise etc which led to a discussion today. Is there a need for up and coming barrel horse trainers in todays market. Why, etc.

Many go out and win on an already trained horse then hang their shingle out to train horses--the two are not the same. 

I think there is always going to be a need for GOOD, reliable trainers and starters. Seems like the good ones are booked out pretty far these days. It's tough to weed thru sometimes, word of mouth is usually pretty good but everyone also has a different idea of what is "good" I also wouldn't have an issue with using an up and coming "jr" trainer either. Everyone has to start somewhere... eventually you're old reliable trainer who has been doing it for years and years is going to retire and they all do not have apprentices working under them.  All that being said I've never used a "barrel trainer" in my life.. we just get them sent off to get started and usually roped on and get them good n handy, I think I prefer doing that part to get them how I like once they are started and going well enough and get most of the stupid out of them. 

A quick way to tell the difference in trainers is to watch the trainer that helps the little girl that ran before them get their horse in then sets the arena record at the American Rideo semi finals and the trainer that can't get their own horse into the arena. 

I think everyone should be very aware of who is a horse trainer and who's built them selves on social media. Before taking advise or sending a horse off.  I personally know of numerous self named trainers and clinicians that have made them selves a name on social media but have never won anything, never trained anything and ride horribly. Not someone you'd want to training or teaching I wouldn't think.

On the flip side, there's folks who can't ride, don't want to learn properly and think they know everything, they send horses off to Mr trainer for 90 days, go pick up horse and bring it home and can't get along with it so automatically, the trainer did a bad job. 

There's also the trainers who made their name by lying on Facebook. They can't ride but are taking in horses and giving lessons. 

There's always a demand for a good trainer, just like there's always a demand for a good horse. 

There are so many variables when it comes to training horses. Some horses will make an experienced trainer look really good... and some horses will make a great trainer look bad. Think of a classroom at school. There are a ton of kids in the same class... some make A's, some make F's. There's only so much the teacher can do if the kid doesn't want to apply themselves. Then the parent gets mad because little Joe is failing and blames it on the teacher. Bach would have been Bach regardless of the coach he had. He was made to do what he did. All they had to do was find a piano. ?
