Can puffing or flaking grain, (corn, barley, oat etc) make a difference in how it ultimately gets digested and utilized by the horse? Claims that this puffing or flaking process will not cause these grains to spike the insulin levels for the horse. And help the ease of digestion. I've not ever heard this but recently began looking into Cavalor feeds and this is what they are claiming on some of their higher nsc feeds. I'm not very familiar with this feed company but they seem to have some nice feeds, it's on the expensive side and several of their feeds fall into the higher bracket of NSC .. They also make a few lower nsc feeds.
I'm very interested in this as well. I've been feeding the " Fiber force" by cavalor to all 3 of mine for 45 days now with a LOT of success. Feeding it to everything from an 18 year old to a 4 year old, to a foundered/Recovered performance horse. All doing great on it with different amounts being fed to each horse. THere are a couple other formulas that I would like to try but wondered about that " Puffed" grain/ safer starch idea to.
