Location: 31 lengths farms | I try to make sure to get up early and ride before they are shod/trimmed and then I haul to ride in groomed ground if I choose to ride the next day. I ride and let them cool down before I deworm also. I will ride the next day but usually take it easy. |

| I give the day off when deworming. Horses feet don't ever get long enough to cause me not to ride same day. |

Location: Fort Worth / Springtown | At one time I had a farrier who lived right by an arena I competed at, but an hour away from me, so when my horse was due for a reset, I'd stop at the farrier on the way to the race. This was an arena I competed at a lot with this horse, and he won a lot of his races the same day he was shod. He'd tend to get slightly slower the longer the time was between shoeing jobs....really got me to thinking about how the length of hoof affects the speed/breakover....

Location: North Dakota | New spin: Why would you NOT ride your horse after a trim or a new set of shoes? If it's done right, and on schedule, your horse should be fine to ride. Same way you go to pull your horse from the pasture the morning of a barrel race, stop at the farrier on the way to fix a bent/lost shoe, and then you make a run. So I personally do not see why you wouldn't be able to ride your horse the same day they are trimmed or shod. If they are SORE after you have that done, then you have bigger problems. Deworming, I guess that's personal preferance. I don't give my horses any planned time off when I deworm them. I usually deworm them after I ride that day, because then I know they don't have any grass deep in their mouth to be able to "spit out" the paste. |
