Location: Fort Worth / Springtown | friend's horse somewhat subtle lameness, mild rise of body when right front hits the ground. It seems to me the shoe job could be the issue and I'm curious what others would think. 2 weeks old. Farrier been doing horse for around one year, every six weeks. Grass got in the way, but I made a red curve to the outside of where the shoe ends.

| To me left front is really under slung in the heel . To much toe there . Right front not a bad but they are both different and not balanced . Hind feet are not to bad . |

| If you had xrays showing the angle you would see why the horse is sore. Heels too far under, toes too long. Guessing the farrier work hasn't been consistent in the past. |

Thank you for your time and sharing your thoughts - I'm going to suggest she find a different farrier. |

Right...that's why I threw in there how long he's been doing. So two weeks ago when he did them, it wasn't just a bad day at the office. Ugh. |

Too much toe.
Thanks - I definitely agree with that. |

Location: On My Horse! | Is this horse clubfooted in the front right? He looks super "up" and has a good amount of heel. Whereas the left has toe for days and low/underslug heels. I would imagine he's pretty unbalanced. His hinds look super long as well. You want his cornet band to face the back of his knee, not up towards the belly. Here's what I would do, again, this is just me....But I would schedule a vet appointment to do live radiographs while the farrier is there. That will show you exactly how much toe you can take off. Some horses are 4, 5, 6 week shoe cycle horses. Just depends on the horse. Good luck! |

Thank you both. I don't know that she necessarily has a club foot...I'd have to look again. I'd never been that close to the horse's hooves except for that few minutes I glanced after coming for a visit, and I also knew she was having soreness issues. I'll suggest radiographs. Farrier just claims horse has small feet and you can't take much off.... |

Location: On My Horse! | Some farriers will say that and some are even reluctant to work with a veterinarian. The hooves may look small, but radiographs do not lie. Your top-notch farriers have a great working relationship with the performance vets in the area. |

Get some xrays of the horse and then find a new farrier. Poor, poor job. |
