| I currently use slanted aluminum stirrups with a leather bottom. Thinking of purchasing straight wooden stirrups. Thinking Nettles but wanting opinions on them OR is there another brand out there that are just as good. Looking for opinions before purchasing. Thanks! |

Location: Texas | I have used aluminum stirrups with the leather bottom like you're describing, and currently have wooden Nettles stirrups on my saddle. I actually prefer the Nettles to the aluminum. It may just be my brain being silly but I feel like my knees hurt less when I'm using the Nettles. |

| I’ve used both types and here’s how I see it: straight wooden stirrups (like Nettles) give a much more traditional feel and can be very comfortable once you break them in. They also tend to be quieter and have that classic look that a lot of riders like. Nettles get good feedback overall. If you want something similar, brands like Freejump (especially their Classic or Soft’Up lines) are also worth checking out, and some riders prefer their slight flexibility and comfort. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | I have a pair of nettles that I luckily purchased second hand and love them. I do not band my feet , hate the feeling of being banded in. Since I got the nettles I have only lost a stirrup once and that was a half azz attempt at a leg lift, LOL! I had also picked up a second little horse to run and my other saddle didn't have wooden stirrups, went with the aluminum ones for a few runs and remembered why I hated them. Couldn't find a killer deal on the nettles like I did on my other pair, so bought a pair of no name wooden stirrups from facebook and honestly, they are not much different feeling than my nettles, maybe a little wider in width across the footbed is it. |

Buy the Nettles. Just do it! I've ridden exclusively in metal stirrups for 10+ years. I bought a Martin BTR saddle last year for my new young mare and it came with Nettles stirrups on them. What a game changer. I ended up buying Nettles stirrups for my other saddles too and got rid of the metal ones. |

| Do it! Get them! I had ankle pain until I switched. You can find them used. There are different quality wood ones so watch for that. I ride in the 6 ply nettles flat bottom- the premier line. They have a 5 ply Chisholm line but I felt it wasn't as comfortable. I also have a pair of Don Orell. And I like them just as well. |

Location: the end of the rainbow | Slanted stirrups of any kind make my knees ache much worse than straight stirrups. I much prefer my Don Orrell wooden stirrups over aluminum and over the Nettles. |
