OK folks!  this is WAY off topic here!

I am getting married 2 weeks from Saturday.  Of course we are having wedding cake.. and my mom has a list of foods, but any ideas on other reception foods?  Or wedding " favors"?   I'm not doing a " themed" wedding and not a large one,   but i wanted to see if anyone had any ideas for something different  or unusual?   Thanks!

LOL   well he is a horsey type, a beginner one but he tries real hard.     and he saddles my horse for me alot...   so he's a keeper.   Yes for the guests.  I'm doing bubbles as opposed to rice or birdseed.

I had ham (spiral cut), buttered potatoes for my wedding.  It was great and not the same old BBQ.  Not sure if that's just a Texas thing or not.

Favors we had little tiny cow bells with our date and names on a ribbon tied to the bell that they rung when we left and also rose petals.

I got married a month ago.  I did all my own food and it worked out really well.  I made chicken salad sandwiches on crossants(sp) cut into halves, roll-ups (tortillias with cream cheese, cheddar and ham/turkey cut into 1 inch peices), chocolate dipped stawberrys, a cheese ball, and veggie bars - my aunt makes them and I am really not sure what is in them, but it is like a sourdough bread with cream cheese, shredded carrots/celery/tomatoes/ect.  You might try some of those things.  They are quick and easy and really present well.  Good luck and Congratulations!!

For my nephews wedding we had Hersheys Hugs and Kisses on the table with a note attached, Love from the Mr and Mrs.  (but I can't remember what we put them in)

I like the cow bells idea!

When I got hitched, a friend of mine helped me out. She was also a caterer. She asked if it was okay if she just went out shopped for what was freshest. It turned out WONDERFUL! One of the dishes was fresh peaches and cream. I know that peaches aren't in season, but you might check out what is, and then decide from that. I saw beautiful strawberries in the store, you could offer strawberries and sourcream with brown sugar..... they are DIVINE! We also had a Champagne punch which was really good and less expensive.

We took squares of a diaphonous fabric and filled it up with birdseed, then tied it off with a pretty ribbon and a sprig of a pretty dried flower. We place those in a large bowl in the entry way and guests could open them up and throw birdseed instead of rice as you leave.

It was so long ago, I am trying to remember all the little things we did. Another tip my caterer told me to do is buy the wine/champagne from a dealer and it was much cheaper, they gave a really good discount for buying it by the case.

I had a big wedding that went way over budget so when my mom and I needed a guest gift we came up with this idea. Everyone loved it:We went and bought the cheap champagne glasses (the ones that have the snap on bottoms) and filled them with a variety of nuts and hershey kisses. You can get the kisses in different colors to match your wedding colors. Then we bought a bunch of peach colored toole. (Peach was one of my colors) Then we cut the toole is squares and cut a small whole in the middle of the square. Take the bottom off the glass and slide the tool up the stem of the glass. Then we took the tool and bunched it up around the cup part of the glass (to keep the candy in) and tied it with ribbon. Then you can play with the gathered tool to make a neat look. They looked really cute at the place settings at the reception. Everyone liked them because they involved food. If this is confusing just let me know and I will try to explain better. Just a little bit of advice. Don't stress yourself out over this. I did and it was such a minor detail. There are a lot of minor details. For 6 months this wedding thing made me crazy. Now that it is over I would have been just as happy with me, my husband our parents and siblings and we would have saved a WHOLE lot of money. Just remember to make yourself happy. Good Luck!!!

We did a roll a little larger than a dinner roll and we did a tray with shaved ham and shaved turkey on it, then did a cheese tray with several different types of cheese on it, and made little sandwiches.  Also did fruit and veggie trays.  That was in december, and my sister who got married in February completely changed her plan when she saw what we did for mine and how well it worked out.   Good luck

Thanks for the Congrats!  On my " honey moon" ( day after) we are going to a barrel race!  lol

To answer a few questions:

Doll:  dunno how many  thinking around 50-75.  Yes doing the disposable cameras at the tables.

Bellestar, I know exactly what you mean!   A friend did that but used hershey kisses in a plastick spoon, with the tulle around the spoon.

Jess, The spiral cut ham sounds great!   Thanks!

So far we are going to have a veggie tray, a cheese tray,  a pickle olive tray, cake, sandwhich plates, a fruit plate... I can't think of what all else!

Thanks everyone for the ideas!!!!!!!

Have you seen the show "for better or for worse" on TLC? they may have some good ideas about inexpensive gifts or food ideas. I love watching this show. They do this whole wedding for like under 5,000.00. And they come up with some really neat things for the wedding.

OOOh, OOoh, Have a Mexican meal! Centerpieces are bowls of chips and salsa. It's easy to have a taco bar. Then you can sip margaritas and drink tequila!!!

I know exactly what you are going through! I'm getting married May 8th so we've got just alittle over a month to go.

For food were are doing a buffet. There will be a cheese/cracker tray as well as a veggie try for an appetizer.

Salad

Then for the main course we decided to go with a variety for meat: chicken, fish, and beef.

Then for sides there will be salad, potatos, steamed veggies, and rice.

And of course Wedding cake for dessert.

Drinks we are doing the main one's like vodka, rum, gin, beer, champaign, soda, tea, coffe, punch, ect. So people can have mixed drinks, beer, wine, or they can go completly non alcholic. Were getting our liquor at the little shop they have attached to Sam's Club. Their prices are very reasonable and it's easy to buy large quantities if need be.

For favors we've got: small soaps in the shape of a heat in little bags, i chose the scents, they will be scattered around the tables for guests to take home. Were also doing the disposable cameras. We've also got bubbles as a favor and the last thing we will have are some white chocolate candy's on a stick. I've bought all of my favors off of Ebay for a great deal. Right now were looking at 30-35 people max for our wedding so we just wanted something small people could take with them or enjoy while they are there.

Ebay has a great selection of things like book marks if many of your friends enjoy reading. They can take home a custome made book mark. There are scrolls, bubbles, soaps, candies, ect. And many good deals to be found!

Best wishes for your big day!
