Location: In the middle of nowhere North Dakota | hay yall, i was just wondering if any of you would know why my mare has runny eyes, i want just some ideas. i know this isnt any info to go on, but i was just wondering what might cause it.and then i was told if you use just regular human saline solution it will help clean them out, but i dont know if i want to do that because horses are so sensitive to certain chemicals. what would you all do?hollie grace and saddie |

Location: Texas hill country | Do they just run in the inside corner? If so it could be her tear duct is pluged. If you look inside her nose there is a hole it's usually where the skin starts to chang color. Your vet can run SS through it and it shoots out through the conner of her eye. It's kind of cool to see. |

Location: WA | It depends on where and the color of the discharge, etc. Last summer our gelding got a runny eye, we put some teramycin (sp) on it, and it cleared right up in a few days! But it depends on your circumstance. |

Location: Somewhere but really not Anywhere | Actually, I had a horse that had a very small scratch on his eye (nothing serious), but went by my vet and he gave me a bottle ($7.00) of medicine for his eye and it cleared right up, and then the other time his tear duck (sp?) was plugged up....Good Luck! |

Location: On our hill top in Iowa | My young gelding did this in one eye. It was creamy looking as well. His would run so bad that he would have a trail of it down his face. Took him to the vet and he had a clogged tear duct and the flushed it. Their tear ducts drain into their nose so you shouldn't have any running out of their eye. They also gave me a cream to put in his eye for a while to help with any irritation from flushing the tear duct. Good luck. |
