Location: Ft Collins, CO | Looking for help on picking the right ones for my horse. I know alot of you use them so I am looking to you for any input. Let me explain my horse (I only have one). He is 9 years old 16.2 maybe more and around 1300 lbs. Last Jan 2003 he got hurt, not sure how or when. He has a fractured cannon bone with soft tissue swelling, roughening of the sesamoid bone, calcification of the sesamiodian ligaments, and has athritis in his hocks and pasturn. And is VERY VERY HOT!!!! What I have done is injected his hocks and pasturn and have him on myristol. But I would like to get him off of alot of this un-naturel crap. I tried Tahtian Noni juice but no changes. So what products from where and what magnets (what brand and from where?) would you recommend. Just FYI he is on Alfalfa Grass mix (bad part about boarding)! I would also like to put him on barley or oats, any idea about how much? I was also wondering about the wormers. Do they work and do you have to also use a "brand" name wormer ever? Thanks in advance for your help! |

Location: Somewhere Out of My Mind | For the herbs I would go with the Joint Support and Keep Cool. The joint support with help with the joints and the keep cool will help level him down a bit. My mare is very hot and since I've had her on the Brain Cool and Keep Cool she has come down quite a bit on her hotness. I have her on the Brain Cool to help support her nervous system as she is a photic headshaker. If you do have questions regarding the herbs though I would contact Mickey at Silverlining. He has helped me so much in figuring out what to give my mare to help her out the most. For Magnets I would go with PHT. They are excellent! I have the poll pac for my horses and I'm currently saving up to get the hock wraps. Here is the web site for PHT: http://www.painxequine.com/pht_magnetics.htm Since your guy gets hot I personally would go with barley. Just start out slow at 1lb and gradually build up from there to his normal grain ration. And HA supplement may also help out with prolonging your injections. Hylaun is good. I also like Hyla RX. Both are inexpensive and easy to feed, just top dress daily. What stable is your horse at? For wormers I use a rotation of Ivermectin (generic), Quest, PowerPac (usually SafeGuard since it's cheaper), and this year will also be incorporating Zimectrin Gold or Equimax twice a year to cover tape worms as well. The PowerPac I use right after our first good freeze so that way any encysted strongyles are killed off well. I hope this helps. I have not used TLC so I'm not familiar with their products. |

Location: Georgia | okrodeogirl, SG could really tell you better on size...hopefully, she'll return soon. I have a Big horse and the XL slinky was almost too small in some areas. He's usually a 80 in regular blankets. I have not had mine long at all, but I'll use it when trailering and when he's in the stall. I'm tickled with the quality of the PHT! |

Location: Somewhere Out of My Mind | I used to keep my mare out there when I was in school. I took lessons from Sonja way back in the day. They are good people. For a chiro I use Dave Siemans. I'll PM you his number. He is great! He works with you and shows you how to tell if your horses hips are locked out and how to check the back for soreness so you can keep on top of they problem your horse is having. For massage I do all of my own, but there is a gal in Loveland that is good to. I'll PM you her info as well, as I’ll have to find her card. Her name is Melanie. For the magnets I would go with the tendon wrap and hock boots. Or if you can afford it the basic package, as it will give you everything you need. I would give the Keep Cool a try. You feed it daily and then if you need a little extra you mix it with water or applesauce or something to paste them if they need a little extra on competition day. |

Location: NE Ok | I looked on the website and only saw the mesh blanket. I called and got the answering machine so I guess they will call me back. My horse is pretty bad about ripping his slinky so I think the mesh might be better for us. I dont know. |

Location: Georgia | SG told me that the slinkys were selling so quickly that she hadn't had time to get a photo yet. they look like the hood but are of course, full body. My horse will destroy and escape from most blankets. SG suggested that I put a sheet on top of the slinky. |

Location: NE Ok | wont that be awful hot this summer? I have found when you double layer over a slinky and go down the road, it causes some bad static elec. I did this and had a wild tiger when we unloaded to walk! |

Location: In the middle of what matters most. SD | I use TLC Perf Plus and DBG Min along with Myristol and PHT Bell Boots for my stud that has calcification on his pastern. I have been conditioning him for about three weeks. He was off since October. Anyway, I wasn't sure if he was improved or not since he only shows his soreness when he is used hard. It was so dang windy today that I decided to try him out in the arena instead of taking his usual pasture ride. He is holding his left hind lead in the deep ground and leaving his left turns harder than ever. He has NEVER felt this good. I'm still trying not to get my hopes too high. Oh, I also give Adequan once a month IM and Legend IV. If he comes back sound, I won't know what is working but at least something is. His Xrays did improve over his layoff with the Adquan, Legend and TLC products. The calcification was still there but smaller and rounder. Good Luck with your horse. |

Location: Here | Here I am..... Thanks for the all the wonderful questions.... I use mine at night when I feed supper I put it on him and take it off when I feed breakfast and anytime I am hauling. I only layer with a light weight sheet at first to make sure that the horse won't rip it... then after a couple of day I don't worry about it any more. Actually my horse stops eating and literally puts his head in his pjs.....

SG what would you recommend from TLC and Silverlining? Kinda depends on what you are needing..... I know LOL But I like the Perf+ from TLC for the basics and then the herbs if you have a specific problem.

Location: Georgia | okrodeogirl, I don't think I'll have to layer going down the road...I sure don't need any more static electricity...that's just when he's in the stall, untied, able to destroy my investment sheet. |
