I have a friend who has a 3 year old grulla and he is a true grulla.  He has no white on him except a little white star.  He has no papers, however she was told that his sire is a black and white tobiano and his dam is a palomino and white tobiano.  Though she is mostly white.  Both parents have little color to them and we were both wondering if it were possible that her horse could have a different sire?  She says she thinks it is the grullo stallion the man owns but he said he never bred the two unless by accident. I have absolutely no idea what that means but whatever .  What do ya'll think?

Probably cost lots of $ but if it really means alot to her to find out .... tell her to do a DNA on both studs .... that will be 100% info.

It's not really of urgent importance to her, he's a grade gelding but she was just wondering if it were possible.....I knid of thought it was but she has her doubts.

Sure would be a neat to find out. That more man would wonder forever how that happen. If I had to quess I would say the grulla stud is the sire......usually paints produce some kinda other paint....usually. Unless the black in that stud and the palomino in the mare made his color......interesting!!!!!!!

According to Ed North's "Breeding for Color" book, grullo is the effect of the dominant dun dilution gene on black, jet black or smoky black.  A linebacked palomino is dun dilution gene on a palomino so maybe this palomino has the dun dilution gene.
