College and futurities?

Any of you futurity while in college? Is it possible? How much time do you take away from college to enter and futurity ride? Just curious as to what other people have done, I'm thinking about taking a colt down the road when I get to college, but I really don't know how much time I can/should take away from school. There are some close futurities, but all of the bigger ones a really far away! Thanks!

Unless they are really close, then it's pretty difficult. Especially when they run a first go on a Friday and you have to check in Thursday, and you have to leave on Wednesday to get there. When I was in college I barely rode, let alone tried to futurity. IMO, focus on college first. There are many more futurities and horse opportunities later in life. I would never have sacrificed my schooling to go to a barrel race of any kind.

I was able to do it while I got my basics because i took most of my classes online. But now I'm taking all my animal science classes and I had to hand over my filly to our trainer to run at the BFA because I simply had no time. I barely have time to ride the open horses enough to keep them in shape. I'll still get to go and watch, but the only one I'll be able to be there all week like I use to do is the Diamonds and Dirt because it will be my spring break.
