So I have always had hot horses, from back when I was a kid doing hunter jumpers to now barrel racing, as a really calm rider I click with the hot ponies. Get up and go was never an issue. Then I got this gelding. I got a good deal on a Fire On Bug guy about a bit back, and he is just a sweetheart. I really like this horse. But I am learning real fast that I have no idea how to ride him. He was greenbroke with 30 days on him when I brought him home, and had a number done on him by the previous owner. Now he is ready to go and to start being pushed and I just can not get any real go out of this horse. He is FAST FAST FAST, he loves to rip around his pasture all the time and has a lovely smooth Firewater Flit turn, hes got the talent. I just am not sure how to fully tap into it I guess. I am wondering if I should breeze him? Thoughts? Hotter feed maybe?

I have one a lot like this. I would breeze him just to get him comfortable going that fast with a rider and to help him stretch out. My gelding is lazy lazy outside of the barrel pattern but the more I have been seasoning him the more speed he adds on his own and the more I get from him on the pattern.
Have you been working him on the pattern long? If it was me I would let him pick his speed going in and work on hustling after the first and gradually keep asking more and more each time you run. That's the process I've used with mine and it seems to be working well. He's been placing in the 2D and we still aren't going full throttle into the first.
