Horse Cut Its Tongue -- info?

I was thinking there was a post on this in the last couple of weeks. Did a searches using "tongue", "mouth", "cut" search terms and didn't find anything.
One of my geldings sliced his tongue pretty good tonight -- about 1" long and at least 1/2" deep and about 1/2" over into it. I'm wondering if he didn't cut it on the edge of one of the feeders out in the pasture as it's a clean cut. Although, he's also got a cut on the opposite side of his face up on his jaw.
I'm just looking for some ideas and input on what to do -- this is a first for me.
He's a strong, big tall horse and it's impossible for me to get a hold of his tongue so that I can doctor it -- he's too tall and too big. So I rinsed his mouth from the corner with cold water -- he let me do that. Then I sprayed his mouth with the Vetricyn really well from the corner as well.
He gets Strategy so I wet that down so that it was mush. We feed loose ground alfalfa and I fed him some of that wet down really well with some wet down beet pulp instead of his usual hay.
Anything else I should do? How long does he need to be on soaked feed?

my horse cut his tongue on a bucket hanger! It was gross! We squirted salt water in his mouth for about five days. He was able to eat and drink fine. The mouth heals very fast.

Wash his mouth with the hose til the water runs clear then pull up really salty water in a 60cc syringe and rinse with that 2-3 times. Do that as many times a day as you can, like every couple of hours if possible.
We had a filly pretty much cut her tongue off, three little threads of tissue were holding it on. The vet had to lay her down and sew her tongue back on, she had big purple stitches going all the way around and never quit eating. It has been about two months and it has almost completely granulated back in, just a little gap along the top. We also had her on bute and antibiotics for the first week but that doesn't sound necessary for your horse.

Listerine works really good too,put it in a syringe and squirt it in his mouth, three or four times a day if you can.
