Elite Veteran Posts: 980 Location: Southwest Minnesota	I know there are several threads on here at any given time asking advice on saddles. My daughter needs a new saddle for her gelding. I have learned a lot on here and just reading online about saddle fit. I had a saddle fitting done at our State 4-H horse show and the saddle she has ridden him in up to this point does NOT fit him. In fact I am surprised how well he has been running for her. Of course the saddle shop that did the fitting wanted to sell me a Martin Crown C 8" gullet. It did fit him very well, but I can not afford that saddle. So does anyone have any suggestions on a similar fitting saddle to this? I am a long ways from any shop that has more than 2 barrel saddles to try on so hauling and sitting saddles on this gelding is nearly out of the question. I need help and any advice would be greatly appreciated. We have about $1200 to spend. I looked at used Crown C's and they are still a little out of our price range....any ideas?

The Advice Guru Posts: 6419	Circle y Kelly kaminiski, and Lisa Lockhart in the extra wide tree may fit. The Kelly is a little narrower then the Lisa. Both of these saddles fit my horses in the shoulder area, but had too much rock and had pressure points behind the wither. When I got mine fitted by Martin I needed to order a 10 inch with extra flat bars. If they didn't think you needed extra flat bars, either of these saddles should fit. I have seen some used ones around the 1200 mark. Also in the billy cook the ones with 2030, 2031 from sulphur Oklahoma have a Lynn mckenzie tree that fit the same horses fairly well but had too much rock again. I would suggest trying these saddles

Use the link i posted below, there are severaal different websites that come up, but they dont work right. You can see many of the saddles theyve made. I have ridden in several of them myself aswell as run with many happy owners. Theyre light weight, sturdy, and so comfy for both horse and rider. Just as soon as I sell my saddle I will be purchasing a custom one for my new horse. My sister just got her (custom ordere to have a patchwork seat fabric) custom saddle and it is amazing. 	Buy a youth roping saddle to fit your daughter and stop worrying about the horse. Barrel saddle makers are the only ones that promote the idea of bad fitting saddles. A kids roping saddle will give you a good saddle tree with open bars, seat size, cantle height, type of swells, 7/8 hanging stirrups and height of horn AND full sized skirts, front and rear cinches that work and the correct angle to attach your wide breast collar to the saddle. Just add you a 3/4" or one inch hair or good quality felt pad to the above ... horse and rider will be happy you did... With the NFR coming up ... pay attention to the old looking ranchy type saddles these top pro's are using vs what they are selling with their names on them ... and pay attention to the saddles your local trainers use on every horse that comes to their barn .... I have never known one to go buy a special saddle to work your so called bad fitting horse with ... Wet spots, dry spots is their main marketing point ... ride one bareback and hop off and look at wet and dry spots and then compare to see if your jeans have wet spots, dry spots to match ... it is called moisture wicking .... lol Edited by BARRELHORSE USA 2013-12-01 12:36 AM
