I personally really like hauling in a stock trailer because I think the horses can get a bit more comfortable but I just wondered what everyone else's opinion was?

I prefer a slant most of the time, but often keep the stock trailer open while hauling short trips or hauling young horses. I also like slants because they have something to brace on if they need to.

I have a stock/slant combo. I haven't gotten to do much hauling with it yet though. But I did pick up a rescue horse that hadn't been loaded in years and he walked right in with no fuss so I like that about them

I like slants because they are good for loading multiple horses especially when you're by yourself.  I can put one in and shut them in so they're done before I have to worry about getting the next one loaded. Also they're better for hauling horses that don't know each other
(like when you're carpooling to shows).

I have a slant load stock trailer as well and the dividers can be removed if needed.

What I don't like about a lot of slant loads is that they're so narrow even on the bigger ones. Even when you move the rear tack compartment over on a lot of them, there's just not a lot of room to work in. I like having a lot of room in the rear of the trailer if I have to work with one.

What I don't like about a straight load stock trailer is that you can't separate them if you're hauling 3-4. If you've got one that's a little funny about loading or one that will fight, it's a little harder to load them into a trailer like that. Plus, you can't get to their head and back them out without being kind of blocked in.

See I grew up always using a slant trailer but now I have a stock trailer and I really like it. I like how in the summer there is a lot of airflow throughout...in our old slant the horses would just melt in there!

I guess I am just wondering what you all think is the most comfortable for the horse. I hauled two horses up from southern Idaho and I just turned them loose up in the front compartment of the stock trailer and they turned around and rode backwards the whole way. I just wonder if being able to move around a bit is more comfortable or not. I know for me personally if you put me in that cramped of quarters in a car I wouldn't be very happy. Its like asking a human to jump in a spam can for hours.

Does anyone else think this or no?

I have both, I use my stock for quick trips but always tie my horses.  I have 2 that will kick if another horse leans on them if they get in a bind.   Love my Cimmarron, big stalls , insulated roof so horses never sweat even in my Southeast Texas heat and humidity, windows head and rear, easy open one handed latches with no parts sticking out to poke your horse.  I always use my slant for races or longer trips.

I prefer slants.  There is never a question about anybody getting ****y and kicking another.    My slant has drop downs front and back so airflow is never an issue.

I have a slant but------funny thing--if you turn your horse loose in a stock they will (99% of the time anyway) turn around and face out the back of it. When I was younger I had a 12' stock trailer and would turn my gelding loose in it. He always faced out the back. I think they are most comfortable that way.

I like slants to give them something to brace against.
